Which FTP password you have depends on where your website is hosted. EverWeb + Hosting has no FTP password at all. You publish by signing in to your EverWeb account. Only Worry Free Web Hosting plans and other companies' hosting use one.
| Your hosting | Is there an FTP password? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| EverWeb + Hosting | No | Reset your EverWeb account password if you can't sign in (see below) |
| Worry Free Web Hosting | Yes | Change it in the Client Area (see below) |
| Another company's hosting | Yes, from that company | Ask that company. We can't see or reset it. |
EverWeb + Hosting: you don't need an FTP password
In File > Edit Publishing Settings, Publish To should be set to EverWeb. EverWeb then publishes after you sign in, on a Mac at EverWeb > Settings > Account or on Windows at Edit > Options > Account. Use the email address on your account and your EverWeb account password.
If that sign-in fails, reset your EverWeb account password on the password reset page, or click Forgot Password in that window. See I can't log in to my EverWeb account.
Worry Free Web Hosting: change your FTP password
- Sign in to your Client Area.
- Go to Services > My Services and click your Worry Free Web Hosting plan.
- On the left, under Actions, click Change Password.
- Enter a new password that is long, mixes letters, numbers and symbols, and isn't used anywhere else. Save it.
If you made extra FTP accounts, change their passwords on the same page under FTP Accounts: click Change Password next to the account.
Your Client Area password and your email passwords don't change.
After you change it
Update the password everywhere you've saved it, such as your FTP app or other website software. If you publish with EverWeb set to FTP Server:
- Go to File > Edit Publishing Settings and type the new password.
- Click Test Connection. You should see "Your FTP details appear to be correct".
If EverWeb goes back to the old password on a Mac, the old one is saved in your Keychain. Which password is which? shows how to fix it.
If you've sent your FTP password to anyone by email, including us for help, change it afterwards.
