Which password is which?

EverWeb uses separate passwords for separate things, and changing one doesn't change the others. Nobody can look up a password, including us, but you can always set a new one. Find what you're trying to do in this table.

What you are trying to do Which password Where to reset it
Sign in to your EverWeb account page (the Client Area) to pay, renew or manage your services EverWeb account password. Your username is the email address on your account. Password reset page
Sign in inside the EverWeb app: EverWeb > Settings > Account (Windows: Edit > Options > Account) EverWeb account password, the same one Forgot Password in that window, or the same page
Read your mail in webmail (yourdomain.com/webmail, using your own domain) Email password for that address. Your username is the full email address. In the Client Area. See the steps
Send and receive in a mail app (Apple Mail, Outlook, your phone) Email password, the same one. Each address has its own. The same steps, then update every device
Publish to another company's hosting (Publish To: FTP Server) FTP password from that company Your hosting company. We don't have it and can't reset it.
Connect to Worry Free Web Hosting with an FTP app or other website software FTP password for your Worry Free Web Hosting plan Change it here

EverWeb + Hosting doesn't provide an FTP password, and only Worry Free Web Hosting does. To publish to EverWeb + Hosting (Publish To: EverWeb), you use your sign-in at Settings > Account.

Logins at other companies, such as your domain company or another web host, are separate again. Only that company can reset them. Your host may also give you one login for its website and a different one for FTP, so ask for the FTP one.

How to tell which one is failing

What you see Where Which password What to do
"Login Details Incorrect" Client Area EverWeb account I can't log in to my EverWeb account
"Could not connect to your account." "The email and password entered are not correct." EverWeb app, Settings > Account EverWeb account Type it by hand, or click Forgot Password
"You must sign into your EverWeb account to publish your website." EverWeb app, when publishing EverWeb account Sign in at Settings > Account
"Could not connect to your FTP server because your username or password was incorrectly entered." EverWeb app, when publishing FTP Check with your hosting company, then enter it at File > Edit Publishing Settings
"The login is invalid" Webmail Email Set a new email password
"Unable to verify account name or password", mail stuck in the Outbox, or password boxes that keep coming back Your mail app Email, as saved on that device Follow these steps
"Wrong token" Webmail None. This isn't a password problem. Webmail signs you out of an address after you sit idle or sign in to another one. Reload the page and sign in again. Use one address per browser at a time.

Being signed in at Settings > Account doesn't prove your FTP password is right. They are checked separately, so you can be signed in correctly and still fail to publish.

If EverWeb says your account isn't active or has a balance owing, but your website is hosted elsewhere, go to File > Edit Publishing Settings and check that Publish To is set to FTP Server or Folder, not EverWeb.

A quick test for email passwords: go to yourdomain.com/webmail, using your own domain, and sign in with your full email address. Type the password by hand.

  • It works: the password is right. The problem is what's saved on your device, so update it there.
  • It fails: the password is wrong. Set a new one.

After you change a password

Email password: update every device straight away

Your phones and computers still hold the old password. A device that keeps trying it can block your whole network's connection, which makes email work on and off. This can happen even if your other devices are correct.

  • Apple Mail: go to Mail > Settings > Accounts, select the account, then Server Settings. Type the new password under both Incoming and Outgoing.
  • iPhone or iPad: go to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts, select the account, then Account Settings. Update the password for incoming and outgoing.
  • Other apps: see Email settings.
  • Devices you no longer use: remove the account from them.
  • Other people: check the devices of anyone else who uses this address.

To find the device on a Mac, go to Window > Connection Doctor in Mail. A red dot marks an account that isn't connecting. If mail still won't connect, sign in to your Client Area from the affected network, which clears the block.

You'll know it worked when you can send yourself a message and receive it, and the password boxes stop.

EverWeb account password: update the app and your browser

  1. In EverWeb, go to Settings > Account (Windows: Options > Account), click Sign Out, then sign in with the new password. Do this on each computer you use.
  2. If your browser offers a saved password, replace it with the new one.

Your email passwords don't change.

FTP password: update your publishing settings

  1. Go to File > Edit Publishing Settings and type the new password.
  2. Click Test Connection. You should see "Your FTP details appear to be correct".

If EverWeb goes back to the old password after you restart (Mac only): the old one is saved in your Mac's Keychain.

  1. Quit EverWeb.
  2. Open Keychain Access. To find it, press Command + Space and type its name.
  3. Search for your FTP server's address, or for EverWeb.
  4. Delete the entry for this website. If it won't delete, open Get Info and change the saved password there.
  5. Open EverWeb, enter the new password in File > Edit Publishing Settings, and choose Allow if your Mac asks.

A few tips

  • Type passwords by hand when something isn't working. A saved password may be out of date.
  • If you use Generate when setting an email password, save the result before you close the page.
  • Look for the confirmation after you save a new email password.
  • You don't need to send us a password to get help. If you've sent one by email, change it.
