Sell a product with options and extras from your contact form

In EverWeb 4.6 and later, a Contact Form Advanced form can work as a simple order form. Customers choose a size, a flavour or extras, see the total add up as they go, and pay by card through Stripe or through PayPal. It suits a few made-to-order products. For a full shop with a basket and stock, see Sell products or digital downloads on your EverWeb website: which option to use.

Who uses this

  • A home baker takes custom cake orders: size, flavour, a message on top and a collection date.
  • A band or sports club sells its T-shirts in one size per order, with a choice of colour and postage.
  • A candle maker offers gift wrap as a paid extra.
  • A farm sells weekly veg boxes, with collection or local delivery.

What you need

The payment settings are explained step by step in Build a custom form: quote requests, registrations and file uploads. This article shows how to set up the product itself.

Image Select shows a photo on each choice, which works well for products. A Drop Down Menu that's required needs a prompt like "Choose a flavour" as its first option, because the first option counts as nothing chosen.

Set it up

  1. Add the form, choose your add-on in Contact Form Enhanced Add-on and type a Contact Form Name, such as Smith Bakery Cake Order. This is the product name customers see at checkout.
  2. In the Payments section, tick Accept Payments, add your Stripe and/or PayPal details, and choose the Currency.
  3. Set Total Label to Order total. If you charge sales tax or VAT, type the rate in Tax Rate (%), like 8.25.
  4. Add the fields and type each price in the Option List's Price column, with a full stop for decimals. Leave Show prices on options ticked so customers see "+12.00" beside each extra.
  5. Choose a thank-you page in Forward To Page and a page for Payment Unsuccessful Page.
  6. Test with a Stripe test key or PayPal Sandbox (testing), switch to your live details, and publish with File > Publish Entire Site.

Quantities

The only field that multiplies is a Stepper or Slider with a Unit Price: the number chosen times the Unit Price is added to the total. A quantity can't multiply other choices, so "3 large cakes with gift boxes" isn't possible on one form. Ways around it:

  • Same price for every size (like club T-shirts at 18 each): put the price on a Stepper called Number of T-shirts (Min 1, Max 20, Unit Price 18), and make Size a choice with no price. Add a Text Area "Ordering different sizes? Tell us which" for mixed orders.
  • Different prices: ask for one item per order, or add a Stepper for each product, such as Small boxes and Large boxes, each with its own Unit Price.

What you receive

Once the payment is confirmed, you get an email marked Paid with every choice, the charged items, the total and a Payment Reference to match in your Stripe or PayPal account. If a customer never finishes paying, their order reaches you a few hours later marked Unpaid order. Every order is also stored in your Client Area under View Form Submissions, with Export to CSV.

Good to know

  • No discount code box. There's no field where customers type a code. Use a Consent, Toggle or choice with a negative price (-5) or percentage (-10%) instead. Anyone can tick it, so check the order before you send it out.
  • Shipping is a priced choice, such as "Shipping: Standard 5 / Express 15". There's no calculator by weight or country.
  • One tax rate applies to the whole order, shipping included.
  • One currency per form.
  • One-off payments only. No subscriptions. For paid memberships see Members-only pages, logins and paid subscriptions: EverWeb Membership Sites.
  • The form doesn't keep stock counts. When something sells out, remove the option and publish again.
  • Stripe and PayPal show one line at checkout, named after your Contact Form Name, with the total. The detail is in your email.
