How Can I set up email in Mail.app, Outlook or any other email client?

No matter what email client you use to access your email, the details will always be the same. You need to set up your incoming email settings and your outgoing email settings (also known as SMTP settings - Send Mail Transfor Protocol settings)

POP3 vs IMAP

You can have access to either POP3 email or IMAP email.

POP3 email downloads the email from our servers into your email client so you have a local copy of it on your computer.

IMAP syncs your email with our server so that no matter where you access your email, it is always synced up. For example, if you read your email on your phone, it will show up as read on your computer and when you login online through our online email client. Likewise, if you delete an email on your computer, it will be deleted from your phone too.

See below for when to use POP3 and when to use IMAP. Choosing either one is just a matter of selecting POP3 or IMAP in your email client and using the corresponding PORT number for the correct service.

1. Get your Server Name

Your server name is needed for your incoming and outgoing mail server. The server name will be in the format of server.ragesw.com where server changes depending on your actually server. Here are the steps to find your server name;

  1. Login to your client area here: http://billing.ragesw.com/clientarea.php
  2. Go to Services->My Services from the navigation menu
  3. Click the service your email is associated with
  4. On the next page scroll down a bit and under 'Hosting Information' you will see Server Name. Beside that you will see the server name to use

2. Choose one protocol for receiving email;

a. Incoming Mail Server Settings (IMAP) -> Use this protocol if you want to keep your email synced across multiple devices/email clients

Incoming Server: Server Name from Step 1 above
Username: your email address
Password: The password you created for this email account. (Not your main client area password but the password you created specifically for this account)
IMAP: Port 993
SSL: On

OR

b. Incoming Mail Server Settings (POP3) -> Use this protocol if you want a local copy of your emails in your email client

Incoming Server: Server Name from Step 1 above
Username: your email address
Password: The password you created for this email account. (Not your main client area password but the password you created specifically for this account)
POP3: Port 995
SSL: On

3. Outgoing Email Settings (SMTP Settings)

Outgoing Mail Server Settings

Outgoing Server: Server Name from Step 1 above
SMTP: Port 465
Authentication: Password
Username: your email address
Password: The password you created for this email account. (Not your main client area password but the password you created specifically for this account)
SSL: On

When to use IMAP or POP3

As noted above there are two options for incoming email settings. IMAP lets you keep your email synced across devices, so deleting it on one device, deletes it on all devices. POP3 actually downloads a copy to your email client so you have the email stored in your email client as well as on our server.

Generally you should use IMAP if you have more than one device, such as a phone and a computer, checking your email.

Use POP3 if you are using one device, or want a local copy of your email.

If you want to backup your email, and easy way to do it is to set up your email client to receive your email as POP3, that way it will download all of your email messages into a local copy in your email client.
