Your website has used up this month's bandwidth allowance, so it's offline. The quickest way to get it back online is to upgrade to a larger plan. You only pay the price difference for the time left on your current plan, and the extra bandwidth is available right away.
Visitors see this message instead of your website:
Bandwidth Limit Exceeded. The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later.
Some browsers also show the number 509. Every website on the same hosting plan can be affected.
Get your website back online
- Sign in to your EverWeb account page (the Client Area).
- Go to Services > My Services and click your hosting plan.
- Click Upgrade.
- Choose a plan with more bandwidth and complete the checkout. The pricing page shows what each plan includes.
You'll know it has worked when your website loads again. Check in a private browser window, or on your phone using mobile data, in case your browser is showing a saved copy of the error.
If you don't upgrade, your website can stay offline until your bandwidth resets at the start of next month.

What it means
Your website can have unlimited visitors, as long as they don't use up your account's bandwidth. Bandwidth is the amount of data your website sends out when its pages, images and files are loaded.
Your plan includes a monthly bandwidth allowance, and the count resets at the start of each month. Bandwidth is separate from your plan's storage, so you can run out of one and still have plenty of the other.
Then stop it happening again
1. Block the bots. Bots read your pages and images over and over, and they can use more data than all your real visitors. They come when Block AI Bots is off, so make sure it's on:
- Open your project in EverWeb and go to File > Edit Publishing Settings.
- Scroll down to Advanced Options and tick Block AI Bots.
- Go to File > Publish Entire Site.
2. See what's using your bandwidth. In the Client Area, go to Services > My Services, click your hosting plan, click Metrics and open the statistics report. Look at the bandwidth figures for this month, and the lists of what's being requested most. These figures can take a while to update. You can also email us and we'll find out for you.
3. If you host a lot of videos or large files, these can help:
- Videos and audio: put videos on YouTube or Vimeo, then show them on your page with a shape whose Fill is set to Video.
- Images: reduce large images, or turn on Export Optimized Images under File > Edit Publishing Settings.
- Large downloads: use a smaller file, or keep it on a service such as Dropbox and link to it from your page.
If your website keeps using most of its allowance, stay on the larger plan so it doesn't go offline again.
If your website is on another web host
