Add a newsletter or email sign-up form to your website

EverWeb doesn't have a built-in mailing list. The most reliable way to let visitors sign up is to paste a newsletter service's sign-up form (Mailchimp, MailerLite and so on) into an HTML Snippet widget. The service keeps your list, sends your newsletters and handles unsubscribes. For a small list, EverWeb's own contact form can collect the addresses.

Option 1: a newsletter service's sign-up form

  1. Open an account with a newsletter service (Mailchimp, MailerLite, Brevo and many others). Compare their plans on their own websites.
  2. In the service, create a sign-up form and copy its embed code (often under Embedded form, Embed or Add to website).
  3. In EverWeb, click the Widgets tab and drag HTML Snippet to where the form should go.
  4. In Inspector > Widget Settings, paste the code into HTML Code and click Apply. If the form is cut off, tick Adjust height to content.
  5. Publish, then sign up with your own address on the published website. These forms often don't work in Preview.

To show the form on every page, put it in your Master Page's footer: see Put the same header, menu and footer on every page with a Master Page. For a pop-up sign-up box whose code goes "in the head", see Add a booking calendar, Instagram feed or other outside code with the HTML Snippet widget. If the service asks you to verify your domain, see Subdomains and DNS records: set up blog.yourdomain.com or add a TXT or CNAME record.

Option 2: a sign-up form with Contact Form Advanced

  1. Drag Contact Form Advanced from the Widgets tab onto the page.
  2. In Inspector > Widget Settings, type your address in Email Address to Send Form to.
  3. Set up the fields below. The form starts with Name, Email and Message: select Message and press Delete.
Field labelControl TypeSettings
Your nameTextBoxOptional
Email addressEmailTick Required field
Send me the newsletterConsent (EverWeb 4.6 and later), or Checkbox in 4.5A statement such as "Yes, email me the monthly newsletter", with a link to your privacy page
  1. Change Submit Caption to Sign up, and set Forward To Page to a thank-you page.
  2. Turn on spam protection, or sign-ups fill with junk. See How to add SPAM protection with reCAPTCHA to Contact Forms.
  3. Publish and send a test from the published website.

Each sign-up reaches you as an email. Without the add-on, that email is your only copy, so add each address to a list yourself, such as a spreadsheet.

With the Contact Forms Enhanced add-on, every sign-up is also kept in your Client Area under Contact Form Submissions > View Form Submissions, where you can export the list as a CSV file. On the 10GB and 50GB packages you can also email the people who signed up from there: tick their submissions, click Mailing, and write your message, using Tags to add each person's name. Tell readers how to unsubscribe (for example, by replying STOP), and delete their submission when they do. See What is the Contact Forms Enhanced Add-on?.

Emailing a long list from your own mailbox, with everyone in BCC, often lands in spam, and mail servers limit how many messages you can send in an hour. Once your list grows, move it to a newsletter service.

Option 3: Membership Sites

Use this only if subscribers should log in, for example to read back issues. Emailing members from the Client Area needs the Plus or Deluxe plan. See Manage your members: add, import, export, suspend, cancel and email them.

Send new blog posts by email

Many newsletter services can email subscribers each time you publish a blog post (look for RSS to email). Give the service your blog's feed: the file rss.xml in your blog's folder, such as https://www.yourdomain.com/blog/rss.xml. For news reader apps, add Insert > Button > RSS Subscribe. See How do I add a blog to my EverWeb website?.

Only email people who asked

Newsletter services can send a "please confirm" email that people click before they're added (double opt-in). A contact form can't, so keep the sign-up emails as your record. Many countries require clear consent and a way to unsubscribe in every email: check the rules that apply to you.
