ID Protection is an add-on for domains registered with us. It replaces your name, address, phone number and email address in public lookups of your domain with forwarding details, so they aren't shown to anyone who looks your domain up. It costs $10.00 USD a year per domain.
Why your details are listed
When you register a domain, your registrar (the company you register it with) must hold accurate contact details for the owner. This is a rule from ICANN, the organisation that oversees domain names. ICANN doesn't register domains itself. For domains you register with us, our registrar partner is eNom.
Public lookup services (called WHOIS, and now RDAP) let anyone look up a domain. What they show depends on the domain's extension and the registrar.
- Since 2018, partly because of European privacy law (GDPR), many lookups hide or redact the owner's personal details anyway.
- This isn't the same for every extension or registrar, and some details can still be shown.
ID Protection is a way to keep your own details out of the public lookup, whatever the lookup would otherwise show. To see what's shown for your domain today, search for it on ICANN's lookup.
Do I need it?
It's worth having if your personal details appear when you look up your domain, or if you'd rather not depend on how each lookup service handles them. People who collect these details sometimes use them to send spam, fake renewal notices or sales calls.
It won't stop spam that comes from anywhere else, such as an email address shown on your website. See I'm receiving a lot of spam emails to my account. How can I stop this?
ID Protection doesn't change who owns the domain. Your real details stay with the registrar, and we still email you at your real address, for example about renewals or to confirm your contact details. Keep them up to date: see My website was suspended by ICANN. What do I do?
Which domains can have it
ID Protection is offered for these extensions: .academy .ai .art .au .band .biz .blog .blue .church .co .coach .com .design .doctor .earth .energy .eu .faith .farm .film .gallery .info .io .it .me .net .nl .org .pet .phd .photo .photography .pro .prof .properties .rentals .shop .site .space .tokyo .tv .ws

Add ID Protection
When you register or transfer a domain: choose ID Protection in the domain options before you check out.
For a domain you already have with us:
- Sign in to your EverWeb account page (the Client Area).
- Go to Domains > My Domains and open the domain.
- Choose Addons from the menu.
- Under ID Protection, click Buy Now and complete the order.
Moving your domain to another company?
Turn ID Protection off first: open the domain in the Client Area, choose Addons, and cancel ID Protection. With it on, the transfer approval email may not reach you. The same applies when you transfer a domain to us: turn off privacy protection at your current company first, as described in Transfer my domain to EverWeb: steps, cost and how long it takes.
