Transfer my domain to EverWeb: steps, cost and how long it takes

You may not need to transfer. To use EverWeb Hosting, you only need to point your domain to us. A transfer just lets you manage and renew the domain in the same account. Pointing and transferring are separate, and your site works the same either way.

Cost: the transfer itself is free, but it requires paying for a one-year renewal. You don't lose time: a year is added to your current expiry date.

Time: usually 2 to 5 days, and sometimes up to 7. It depends on your current registrar. If you keep your current hosting until the transfer completes, your site stays online.

Before you start

At your current registrar, sign in or ask them to:

  1. Unlock the domain.
  2. Turn off privacy protection (also called ID protection or WHOIS privacy).
  3. Give you the EPP code, also called an authorization, auth or transfer code.
  4. Check the contact email on the domain. You must be able to receive mail there.

Registered or transferred it less than 60 days ago? You'll need to wait until 60 days have passed.

.uk domains: skip the code. Ask your registrar to change the IPS tag to ENOM, then follow the transfer steps below. The transfer usually completes within a few hours of the tag change.

Start the transfer

  1. Sign in to your client area and go to Domains > Transfer Domains to Us, or use this link.
  2. Enter the domain. Copy and paste the EPP code rather than typing it.
  3. Complete the checkout.

Approve it

You may receive an approval email, so check your spam folder too, and click the link. It goes to the contact email for the domain. We can't see this email or resend it to another address until the domain is with us.

Check progress

Go to Domains > My Domains. If it fails, you'll see why: what each error means. In many cases you can fix it and resubmit.

After it completes

If the domain is pointing elsewhere, update the nameservers. Then you can cancel with your old provider.

If your domain extension isn't listed on the transfer page, you can still use it.
