I received a Domain Transfer Failed email. What should I do?

If you receive a domain transfer error you can easily resubmit the domain transfer after reviewing the domain transfer error. You can always check the status of your domain transfer by logging into your client area and going to Domains->My Domains. Then press the Manage Domain button where you will see a detailed error message and have the opportunity to resubmit the domain transfer on your own.

If your domain transfer has failed, please review the email sent. It will describe to you why the transfer failed. Here are some of the most common reasons why transfers fail and what you need to do;

  1. Invalid EPP Code - This means the EPP or Authorization code that you provided when initially transferring your domain was not approved. Please re-obtain your EPP/Authorization code from your current domain registrar and resubmit the domain transfer (as described above).
  2. Less than 60 days old - Domains that are less than 60 days old cannot be transferred. Once the 60 days is up, resubmit the domain transfer (as described above).
  3. Locked domain - Domains must be set to 'unlocked' in order for a transfer to go through. Ensure your domain is not 'locked' by contacting your current domain registrar and resubmit the domain transfer (as described above).
  4. No response to verification email - When domains are transferred, a verification email is sent to the email address that is associated with the domain. In many cases, this verification email contains a confirmation link that must be clicked on in order to proceed with the transfer. If you ignored this email, your transfer will fail. If you did not receive this email, your domain may have Privacy Protection enabled. Privacy Protection blocks your email address from being viewed, which means that the verification email does not get sent to you. If you have Privacy Protection enabled on your domain, you will need to disable it with your current domain registrar, and then and resubmit the domain transfer (as described above).

Unfortunately we do not have full control over the domain transfer process. We do our best to ensure it is done as quickly as possible but there is a process that must be followed. To ensure the fastest domain transfer please do the following;

  1. Ensure your domain is older than 60 days. That means you registered it more than 60 days ago
  2. Your domain is unlocked and privacy protection is disabled. This can ONLY be done with your current domain registrar
  3. You have the proper email associated with your domain name. You must verify this with your current domain registrar. Make sure the email associated with the domain name is valid and you have access to it
  4. You check your email SPAM folder for the verification email. It will come within 48 hours of putting the transfer through
  5. If you don't receive the above email (in step 4), contact your current domain registrar and change the email associated with the domain. Use a @gmail.com for best results. Then resubmit the domain transfer (as described above).
