I got a new computer and my website isn't in EverWeb

Your website is fine. Installing EverWeb doesn't bring your sites across, and transferring your files to a new computer may not either. You need to copy your project file (the editable copy of your website) from your old computer. Your live website and email aren't affected.

If you plan to sell, erase or recycle your old computer, do this first.

If you still have your old computer

On your old computer:

  1. Open EverWeb. Go to File > Projects Window... if the Projects window isn't showing.
  2. Click the three dots next to your website, then choose Show On Disk. Your project file is highlighted. It has a long, random-looking name.
  3. Copy that file to an external drive, or upload it to a service such as Dropbox or WeTransfer.
  4. Repeat for any other websites you have.

On your new computer:

  1. Download EverWeb and install it.
  2. Copy the project file onto your new computer.
  3. Open EverWeb and drag the project file into the Projects window. Your website appears in the list.
  4. To publish, sign in with your EverWeb account email and password at EverWeb > Settings > Account (Windows: Edit > Options > Account).

You'll know it worked when your website opens and looks right. Make a small change and click Publish to check that it reaches your live site.

If you no longer have your old computer

See My computer died or I deleted my site. Can I get it back? Look at any Time Machine backup or external drive first.

Things that may not come across

  • Custom fonts. Install them on your new computer before you open the project, or your text may look different.
  • EverWeb settings. Check EverWeb > Settings again, including your automatic backup location.
  • Saved FTP passwords, if you publish to another web host. They may not come across, so have your FTP password ready.

If EverWeb won't run on your new computer

A new computer may need a newer version of EverWeb than the one you've been using. Which versions you can use depends on whether your Updates & Support plan is active. Contact us with your computer's operating system version if you're not sure, before you buy anything.

Moving between Mac and Windows

EverWeb + Hosting includes both versions. With the software-only version, you can add both with the Multi-Platform License. Your project moves across too. See how to move it from Mac to Windows.

Can I use both computers?

Yes. One person can use EverWeb on as many computers as they need. Your project doesn't stay in step by itself, though, so copy the latest version across each time you switch, and take care to work from it.
