Where is my website? Your live site and your project file

Your website has two copies: the live one online, and the editable one on your computer, called your project file. You change your site by editing the project file and then publishing it. You can't edit it from your account page or from your web address.

Can EverWeb support see it? Yes, if you host with us Only if you send it to us

A live website can't be turned back into a project file. It can't be imported into EverWeb, so if you lose every copy of your project file, your site has to be rebuilt. It's worth taking a few minutes to protect it.

Change something on your website

  1. Open EverWeb on your computer.
  2. In the Projects window, double-click your website. If another project is open, go to File > Projects Window... first.
  3. Make your changes.
  4. Click Publish in the toolbar.

Protect your project file

1. Find it. In the Projects window, click the three dots next to your website, then choose Show On Disk. The file has a long, random-looking name. That's normal.

2. Make a backup now. Click the three dots again and choose Make Backup..., then follow the steps.

3. Check your automatic backups. Go to EverWeb > Settings > Backup (Windows: Edit > Options > Backup). Make sure Enable Automatic Backups is on, and choose how often it runs.

4. Keep a copy somewhere else. A backup on the same computer won't help if that computer fails. Set your backup location to an external drive or a cloud folder, or copy your backups there regularly.

Want this done for you? EverWeb Cloud Backup, available in EverWeb 4.6 and later, is an optional paid service that backs up your project online. See the plans.

If you can't find it

Sharing it with someone else

Send a copy of the project file, or a backup, to the person taking over, and make sure you both know who has the latest copy. Only one person should work on it at a time.
