EverWeb 4.6 and later: Extra Menu Links
- Select the Navigation Bar, go to Inspector > Widget Settings and open Extra Menu Links.
- Click Add, double-click the name and type the wording you want in the menu.
- Set its link to the other website. The same list can also link to a page, or to a section of a page.
- Optional: tick Hide my site's pages if you want the menu to show only the links in this list. A new page then won't appear in the menu until you add it there.
- Publish with File > Publish Entire Site, because the menu is on every page.
A menu added before EverWeb 4.6 keeps its old settings and has no Extra Menu Links. Use the 4.5 steps below, or replace it with a new Navigation Bar: see How do I add a navigation menu to every page of my website?
EverWeb 4.5: use a redirect page
In EverWeb 4.5 the Navigation Bar only lists pages in your project, so you can't type another website's address into it. Instead, add a page with the name you want in the menu, and make that page send visitors straight on to the other website (a redirect).
Steps
- Click Add Page in the toolbar. To put the link in a drop-down, add the page inside the directory instead.
- In Inspector > Page Settings, type the menu wording in Navigation Menu Display Name (for example Shop), and check that Include page in navigation menu is ticked.
- In the same tab, open Head/Footer Code.
- Paste this into Head Code, and replace
https://www.example.com/with the address you want:<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=https://www.example.com/">Keep the quote marks exactly as they are.
- Leave the page empty. Visitors won't see it.
- Click Preview, click the new menu item, and check that it goes to the other website.
- Go to File > Publish Entire Site. A change to the menu affects every page, and Publish Entire Site sends every page again.
Good to know
- The other website opens in the same tab. This method can't open it in a new tab.
- To change the address later, edit the Head Code and publish again. Test in a private browser window so you're not seeing your browser's saved copy.
- With EverWeb + Hosting, you can also open a support ticket and ask us to set up the redirect for you.
- To link buttons, pictures or text to another website, use the Hyperlinks tab instead: see How to link to another page, a website, an email address, a phone number, a PDF, or a section of a page.
