EverWeb contains automatic backups to make sure your project file is safe and so that you can access previous versions of your website if needed.
To backup your website simply follow these steps;
- On a Mac, go to the EverWeb menu in the top left hand corner and select 'Settings'. On Windows, go to the Edit menu and select 'Options'.
- Go to the 'Backup' tab
- Select the option to 'Enable Automatic Backups'
- Below this setting you can specify a location to back up your website project files. We recommend backing them up to a Dropbox or iCloud location by selecting this location in the Finder
- Your backup schedule can also be changed from this location as well. You can backup your website daily, weekly or monthly
To retrieve your previous backups follow these steps;
- Go to the File menu and select 'Projects Window'
- Next to the project you want to view the backups for, click the circle button with three dots on a Mac, or the arrow on Windows
- From the popup menu select 'Restore from backup'
- From the window that appears select the backup you want to appear
Tip: Your current project file will be moved to the trash and the backup will now become the current project in the Projects window. That way if you need to, you can get the older project from the trash folder.
Backing up your EverWeb project file is very easy. See this video tutorial on backing up your EverWeb project file.
EverWeb Cloud Backup
EverWeb Cloud Backup is an optional paid service, available in EverWeb 4.6 and later, that saves a copy of your project to secure online storage. If your computer is ever lost, stolen or wiped, you can still download your backups. See the plans.
How it works. EverWeb backs up your project to the cloud after each publish and after each scheduled backup. You can turn this on or off in the same 'Backup' tab as above, and each project can use its own setting in its publishing settings. EverWeb waits at least 10 minutes between cloud backups so that repeated publishing doesn't fill your storage. When your storage is full, EverWeb removes your oldest backups to make room.
To see your cloud backups, go to the File menu and select 'Cloud Backups'.
To download a cloud backup:
- Go to the Cloud Backup page in your client area. You can also get there by clicking 'Manage Backups in Client Area...' in the Cloud Backups window.
- Click 'Prepare Download' next to the backup you want. You can prepare one download per day.
- After about 10 minutes, you'll receive an email with a download link, which is valid for 24 hours. You can also return to the Cloud Backup page to download it.
- Double-click the downloaded .ewbackup file to restore your project.
