My website looks wrong on a phone: how mobile works in EverWeb

How you fix this depends on which type of page you built. EverWeb has two.

  Responsive page Centered Layout page
On a phone The same page rearranges itself to fit Stays at its desktop width, unless you add a mobile page
Separate mobile page? Not needed Recommended
Moving things around Objects flow in rows and containers. In EverWeb 4.5 or later, you can also place an object anywhere with Allow free dragging and pinning Drag anywhere

To see which you have, select the page and go to Inspector > Page Settings > Page Layout.

See it on a real phone

A desktop preview doesn't always match. Click Preview in the toolbar, choose Preview QR Code, and scan the code with your phone's camera.

Responsive pages

Design one page and adjust it for smaller screens.

  • Check each size. Change the width of the Editor Window to see how your page adapts.
  • Hide something on one size. Select it, then go to Inspector > Metrics, and use the checkboxes such as Show on Mobile in the Responsive section.
  • Want to place an object anywhere? In EverWeb 4.5 or later, select the object, go to Inspector > Metrics and tick Allow free dragging. You can then drag it anywhere, as you can on a Centered Layout page. Click Pin Settings to pin it to the top, center or bottom, and the left, center or right, of the page or its container, so that it holds its position as the screen size changes. Otherwise, objects are full width and flow with the page. See the responsive page tutorials.

Centered Layout pages: add a mobile page

  1. Click Add Page in the toolbar, filter to Fixed Width templates, choose your theme and select its Mobile page. Add your content.
  2. Select your desktop page.
  3. Go to Inspector > Page Settings > Mobile Settings. Under Mobile Page choose One of My Pages, then pick your new page.
  4. Publish. Phones are sent to the mobile page automatically.

Repeat for each page. Avoid putting all your text in one or two big text boxes, as they cause layout problems on a small screen. Video tutorial.
