EverWeb 3.5 Beta: Site Search, Faster Overall Performance, Responsive Row Improvements

User: Paul-RAGESW 3 years ago
EverWeb 3.5 beta is here for you to try! The beta version means it's not a final release, but we are offering a sneak peek at all the new features!

EverWeb 3.5 is now M1 native. It will work natively on M1 and Intel Macs.

UPDATE: RELEASED

First up, we have added site wide search with the new Search Field and Search Results widget. This makes it extremely easy to add powerful search features to your EverWeb website,

Responsive Rows get a 'reverse wrap' option providing more design flexibility for Responsive websites.

SEO PowerUp will now add open graph tags to your website.

Publishing your website after moving, renaming or deleting pages will only require an update if the page is actually shown in the navigation bar and will only publish pages with a navigation bar.

With your blogs you can not specify a post summary, blog meta descriptions, and meta keywords for each post. These settings are using not only for search engines but also in your blog archives and your website search.

Overall performance has been dramatically improved. Widgets will render significantly faster and publishing is over 30% faster as well. Gradient page backgrounds will no longer slow down drag and dropping elements on your page.

Some minor improvements include a SMTP Settings Test Button for the Contact form so you can bee sure your SMTP details will work without having to publish your test. The contact form also has a duplicate form control button.

The YouTube video widget now has a mute option and various bug fixes related to the Assets List and mouse over effects for elements with picture frames have been fixed.

Let us know what you think of these new features.

I have been looking forward to the search widget but can it search multiple choice?
example search for diamond and platinum and it show the results that only have both words?
User: Paul-RAGESW 3 years ago
Hi David,

Right now if you search for two words like that it will find pages that have either one. We can put in an option to require all terms be fond though. I will add that to our to do list.

- Is it correct, that the Search is not full-text, it just finds, what is written in the Search-Engine-Optimization field of each page?
- Some check-boxes are black (pic1).
- German translation on pic2 should be: "Suche sollte 3 Zeichen oder mehr haben." or better: "3 Zeichen oder mehr eingeben." (pic2).

cheers, Ingo

Hi Ingo,

No, it is a full text search. It uses the content on your page and the keywords and description. The description can also be used as the summary for the search resutls.

Did you recently switch from dark mode to light mode?

Thank you, we have fixed this for the next release.

No. Never used dark mode. Only the checkboxes 'Shadow', 'Reflection', 'Animation' and 'Activate hyperlink' under the hyperlink tab are black. Just these four.
---------
Search: On my site KLICK it only finds what I described. If I try to find Gaga, I get no results.

cheers, Ingo

That would be good, could I suggest some other options...
To be able to select page name instead of Title.

To have a the option on the page to be searched select a image that shows as a thumbnail in the search results

Have a search box that has a series of tick boxes so the user can tick the named options and it find without having type all the options.

kind regards
David

Thanks for the suggestions David!

1. So you would prefer the page name rather than the title? You can also show the link to the page under the title in the search results if you like currently.

2. This is a planned feature.

3. I'm not sure if this can easily make it in to this widget. I will investigate though

Your other issues to search for all terms or just some terms is definitely doable as well.

Thank you very much for the new beta, but 'Search' is still a mystery to me: Can't get it to work correctly, and I found another bug in there: The file "search_content.js" references to pages that are deleted: It shows results on pages that are not present anymore. Even if everything on the server is deleted and the site is then completely new uploaded.

EDIT: The last thing seems to be fixed in EW 2443. :-)

cheers, Ingo

Sorry to hear about these issues.

Can you explain in a bit more detail what the issue is? What is happening when you try and use it?

At the beginning of this thread you wrote that it's a full-text-search, but on my pages it only finds, what is written in the Search-Engine-Optimization field of each page, the page-title, and the page-description. I suppose, that is everything, what's written in the file search_content.js?
A full-text-search would find a song on Songsthis page, but it doesn't. So I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

cheers, Ingo

BTW: Nice new Icon. :-)
