Protocol Error: RETR Response: 425

User: Julie H. 5 years ago
I've had a message pop up before my two copies of Ever`Web have opened on my iMac and MacBook which hasn't been there before - something about accepting incoming permissions...

Then when I try to update I get this and it won't update at all:

{LOG REMOVED}

Any ideas?

Hi Julie,

Please never post that log publicly. It sensitive information about your account.

The issue appears to be that you don't have passive publishing enabled. Go to the Preferences under the EverWeb menu and select 'Publishing'. Then enable 'Use Passive Publishing Connections'. Then try publishing again.

If you continue to have issues, this knowledge base article discusses Protocol Errors when publishing your website to EverWeb Servers.

Furthermore the issue with your website isn't that the publishing didn't complete. It is because you are using HTTPS urls (EverWeb SecureShield) but you included a link to a nonsecure image on your site.

It looks like you included an HTML snippet (or possibly a third party widget) for the yellow #1 WOW winner - Women in Business image near the bottom of your page and used this URL to link to the image;
http://www.pha-media.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/WOWButton.png

This is a bad idea of a number of reasons.

1. If that third party site removes that image, it will not work on your website anymore
2. You used the insecure version (http:// instead of https://) to link to it
3. It could slightly slow down your website

You should just drag and drop that image on your site rather than use the HTML Snippet to link to it.

If you don't change this you will see that your website doesn't get the secure lock icon.

Thanks Paul, but that hasn't helped at all.

Because I was struggling to update I turned passive publishing off, as suggested in preferences. This issue existed prior to me turning it off. I've just turned it back on and it still won't publish. The issue still exists.

The WOW women icon has been on my website since November and has never caused any issues before. I can change that, but surely that won't be affecting the issue I'm having now.

HI Julie,

Regarding the FTP issue, did you follow the instructions in the link I provided which has more trouble shooting steps?
EverWeb Publishing Trouble Shooting

If so, can you please contact customer support with the new error log so we can see it privately.

The issue with the website, as you described it, could be related to the Women Icon, but since you had it on there for a while, it may not be. But what the Women Icon is doing is preventing your website from loading securely. You will notice that you are publishing with EverWeb SecureShield to have an HTTPS secure URL but your URL is not secure because of how you set up that icon.

The way I am suggesting you add it to your website will have the three benefits I mentioned above.
