Publishing problem

User: Jim S. 8 years ago
Yesterday when I published some changes to my site, all of a sudden the entire site's formatting is all screwed up. I've been talking with support, they had me email them the project, and are trying to publish it themselves (to Godaddy) to see what happens, but they're being a little slow. I need the site operable.

I'm using version 1.8.0 I'm on OS 10.6.8. I'm wondering if there are any issues there? Although it had been working fine since i put it up last week. I'm publishing to Godaddy

Here's the site www.jimsavage.net

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts before support follows up with me. Thanks

Did you try going to File->Publish Entire site?

What does it look like when you preview your website?

Yes I did. I got an error message which suggested i undo secure connection setting. That didn't work. It looks fine in preview.

I'm going to try again, just to see.

OK, successfully published entire site, still same problem.

Support just let me know they got it published successfully. But didn't tell me what the problem was. I'm afraid to publish a change if it's got something to do with my end.

That error means your site didn't fully publish. What did it say exactly? Who is hosting your website?

I am publishing my site and the font has changed colour. If I preview the site, it's as I want it. If you go on the web then some of the sites font has changed to black when it should be yellow. The page is black, so the black font isn't visible. If you try highlighting then you can see the font.

I have EverWeb 1.8 and EverWeb is hosting the site

Why not provide a link to the page directly ?

Your text styles.css is missing a large number of styles so you obviously didn't upload it. Try publish the entire site from the File drop down menu.

I've spent all morning publishing, republishing, emptying caches, checking different browsers and phones. My site is still not publishing properly. Support tried it once last week successfully when they published entire site. So that's all they're telling me to do now. It's worked a couple of times today publishing just changes, but then all hosed up again. I'm not identifying any common thread, as in Safari specifically. Sometimes it does fix it to clear cache, then other times no. I'm in middle of creating mobile site, so checking home a lot. That's erratic too. I can't imagine the solution is to simply publish entire site when I want to publish one small change??
I don't understand web building, but a friend mentioned something about missing a style sheet like you mentioned above Roddy. Is there any way to look at my site and see what's going on? Like I say, support seems to be stumped.

I'm publishing to godaddy.
here's the site (let's see if I get this right—heaven forbid I enter the url errantly. www.jimsavage.net

And I'm using ew version 1.8.0 OS 10.10.3 Although I was having same problem on another Mac that was 10.6.8

Jim, I looked at your site in Safari and cannot see anything wrong. I also do not know what it is supposed to look like. The only thing I could see that might need work is that some of the images on the right side of pages may need @2x added to them as they are a little fuzzy.
Have you tried looking at it from someone elses computer or tablet?

Thanks Jim. The issues I'm having is that sometimes when I republish the text is very garbled. Right now the site should appear OK. (Other than details like you point out—I haven't gotten around to the fine tuning yet). I have a hunch that the problem occurs when I only publish "changes" as opposed to "entire site". A friend who is helping my with this sees it on her computer when it happens also. She was explaining style sheets to me, saying "it's like it's missing a file when it republishes" which sounds similar to what Roddy addressed above. I'm going to try publishing "changes here in a minute and see what happens. As support has told me to publish entire site, and that was Roddy's suggestion to Gordon above, my question is this: Is Everweb not capable of publishing just changes? Is this a bug? I take that back—I'm certain it worked OK publishing changes the first couple times I tried. It doesn't seem right if the answer is to simply have to republish entire site every time you want to update a change.
