Publishing using our own hosting account.

Please let me see if I understand this process correctly because from what I've read on your forum and watched in your videos, if we have our own hosting service, in order to use the software we purchase here, we have to 1) give our personal information or make up some fictitious information in order to create an account with everweb/rage software, then 2) we have to rely on everweb/rage software to remain in business and have a website in order to use the software we have purchased, and 3) even after the previous two requirements are satisfied and if we have our own hosting account, unlike iWeb where we could fill out the hosting information (i.e.- passwords, domain info, etc.) in the 'Site Publishing Section' and had instant one-click publishing plus the software can be used long after Apple goes out of business, I would now have to publish a folder on my computer and upload via an external ftp application in order to see the results? Are all of these statements correct, because that's what I'm gleaning from all of this. Please advise.

Hi Steve,

1. You have to purchase the software license which means we need to your credit card and address. Just as if you were to purchase any product online.

2. Currently you need to login within EverWeb to publish. However, very shortly this won't be a requirement. Please note if we ever were to go out of business, we would remove the registration requirement as we have done with other discontinued products that we sell.

3. In version 1.2 you need to publish with an external FTP client. In version 1.3 which can be accessed under the Announcements tab in this forum, and should be officially released next week, you can publish directly to your FTP server within EverWeb.

Then I will wait to evaluate version 1.3, before making a $75 commitment for this software, because in it's current format it's a deal breaker. I appreciate the opportunity to evaluate before we purchase. Thanks and I hope I don't come across too harsh, I just hate configuring and having to use 3rd party ftp client software (regardless of if it's free or not). I really do appreciate the work Rage software is doing to cater to the iWeb crowd. I'm a graphic designer, not a programmer.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your feedback.

The Final Candidate version is available in the Announcements forum so you can start using it right now if you like. Final Candidate means it is close to, or most likely, the version we will be officially releasing. It just there for extra testing to make sure we haven't missed anything.

Paul,

I just downloaded version 1.3. I see no difference regarding publishing. The 'Site Publish Settings' looks exactly the same as did in 1.2. The tutorial video that the application redirects one to is the exact same one I've watched before and states that if you do not have a rageweb/everweb hosting account you will only be able to publish to folder. I've checked the 'About Everweb' and it is version 1.3b4. So what is it exactly you mean when you state the user will be able to "publish directly to your ftp within everweb"?

Nevermind. Your explanation in the help ticket clarified this for me. I did not know about the 30 day money back license, so I will be purchasing this afternoon. For those of those who happen across this thread, the instructional video had not been updated at the time of this posting and also, it was explained that after purchasing and entering a license, the option to publish directly to server becomes available. Thanks Paul for all your help.
