Viewing Creating a blog

Creating a blog

User: Jonkeba 10 years ago
Have never put a blog together but saw a post that said soon we'd get a video showing how to create one simply using templates. The first post I looked at about doing this (a month or so ago) looked a little too complex for me.

At first, all I'd like to do is to put my comments on the web with a subject and a date (no responses) until the real blogging feature comes along—which I'm guessing may be a good while yet. Will the video show me how to do this extremely simply—i.e. at the kindergarten (iWeb) level at which I operate?

Many thanks.

With the new Master Pages feature, creating a blog is much easier.

You can create a Master Page for your blog. See the Master Page video tutorial on how to create Master Pages.

Once you have created a new Master Page I recommend you create a new directory and call it Blog.

Then you can create your actual blog pages by adding Pages to that directory. Assign your Master Page template to these new pages. Add a text box for your blog post to each blog page. You can also add disqus to each page for blogging.

Does this make sense? We are working on a video for this. It may sound complex but it is very similar to how iWeb created blogs.

We are working on a much better blogging platform but don't have a timeline yet to announce.

Because I'm so unfamiliar with blogging, this a very basic issue that I don't quite get. It sounds as if I need to use an entire page for each blogging entry which might be as short as a couple of lines. So the real question for me is, can your put three or five or even seven or ten short items on one page?

If you can, then it would seem that after five, ten, or fifteen pages, the final blog capacity might then be available? If I could approach it in this way (i.e. short multiple entries on each page) then perhaps the only downside would be that there'd be no official blog archive—though maybe that, too, could be a template?

Thanks.

p.s. Confess I haven't yet looked at the tutorial which I'll take a look at in the morning so maybe my answer will lie in that...

Remember that every blog entry in iWeb (or any other blogging platform) is its own page. So that is what I am suggesting you make.

So in iWeb you just have that list at the top of your blog page that lets you select which "blog page" you're on. Currently in EverWeb you would just create a new page for each blog entry. It's similar, but slightly different on how you actually create each blog entry.

That being said, you could put as many blog entries as you want on a single page.

We are working on a video tutorial for doing the above which should help clear it up a bit.

Thanks for your replies. In looking over Steve Sande's Take Control of iWeb manual I saw I might well be confusing the Blog with the Blog Summary page. (Seems the blogs I see online often resemble iWeb's Blog Summary page with its series of entries.) Look forward to figuring things out from the new video tutorial.
