Synchronize Social Media Buttons and Analytics, etc. for Mobile/Desktop Site

User: Christopher 11 years ago
I'm mostly finished designing my mobile site. But this is where things get complicated. For starters, I'm beginning to think the redirect code should be inserted on each page with specific url's to that mobile page. Otherwise, if someone searches for one of my pages on a mobile they'll be taken to the home/index page. Am I right?

Secondly, I've read what I could find on the FB developer's page but it mostly addresses iOS & Android apps. Not mobile web. So is it safe to think I can apply the same javascript and html on my mobile pages, using the desktop url's? I'd like the like and share count to be shared cross-platform. Same goes for Twitter.

Next up: StatCounter. Do I need to create a separate project for my mobile site? It appears that way.

Lastly (though probably not), Disqus. Amazingly, miraculously, I figured this one out on my own and have synchronized the comments on both my desktop and mobile site.

I'm going to start by answering a couple of my own questions.

With StatCounter, you don't want to create a separate project. Instead you want to click the little wrench, Edit your Project Settings, and add a website address (your mobile one) underneath your main URL. If I'm wrong, someone tell me.

As for the redirect code, you definitely want to customize the URL for each page so if someone googles one of your pages on a phone, it will take them straight there. I just did that for all of my pages. Works perfectly.

Well what do you know, I've answered all my own questions. So long as the URL is the same, using the first one used which for me was on my desktop site, the buttons automatically synchronize. Brilliant. Least that's my experience with FB and Twitter. So far...
