Viewing itemisation / paragraph styles

itemisation / paragraph styles

User: Guest 12 years ago
Two questions/requests:

1.I found no way to do proper itemisation. After entering "1.blala random stuff" and pressing enter iWeb comes up automatically with "2.", just like any word processor.

2.The abilities of a text box are quite limited. It would be nice to have something like paragraph styles. So when I add some text and chose "headline" it would become bold, 14pt e.g., depending on the page template.

Also note that the "plain white" template looks clean and good, except the navigation. Those blue links look like standard <a href=""> links.

EasyWeb isn't a word processor though. But I'm sure there will be options later to create lists. If you know a bit of markup you can of course create ordered lists with a html widget.

You'd rather be using html widgets with header tags for your headlines instead of making paragraphs just bold or bigger. I'm sure there will be an easier way than using html widgets for something simple like headings. Until then you can use the font and color panel to make the text look like anything, just like in a word processor ;)

You can change the look of the navigation completely from the widget settings.

1. Of course, but the purpose of using a WYSIWYG app is not to mess with code. And if the average person looks at this program, the person will see something like a word processor.

2. Same as 1. Then I could go back to plain html as well.

About the navigation:
Yes, but isn't the purpose of using templates to get quick good-looking out-of-the-box experiences/a good start? It's not that I personally dislike the navigation in this template. It's more like it's horrible in general, doesn't even fit the template and therefore should be fixed. Navigation in the other templates is fine, though.

WYSIWYG means that you get an instant preview of the data you enter. Most code editors are WYSIWYG.

One of the big problems with drag and drop style web design apps is that most of them are too much like DTP apps and encourage the inexperienced to use techniques which are applicable to print media but are not appropriate to web design.

I think everyone that wants to design a webpage should have at least some basic understanding of how html and css works. I'm not interested very much in coding from hand either, but you can only gain an advantage if you know how to work with html widgets and code injection.

Even Freeway, which is said to be the designers choice if you want to do web design without the need to use code, isn't completely free from using code. I bought Freeway, believing it would be the perfect choice for me. But EasyWeb is so much better for web design dummies than Freeway is. And I believe that EasyWeb will become as powerful.

There is no "eierlegende wollmilchsau" (a sheep-pig that gives milk and lays eggs) as we say in german.

I know about "eierlegende wollmilchsau", I'm from Austria ;)

And I couldn't agree more with you- if you do webdesign I think you should have some solid knowledge. But there are people who need content to be published easily. Without looking ugly (remember the early Frontpage websites?).
EasyWeb looks like a tool to me that could provide beginners with an easy way of publishing content, even without html knowledge. And for more experienced users it provides the possibility to add some code.

What I was asking for are some very basic functions. I shouldn't have to use html code for that. In my opinion, EasyWeb should even focus on beginners and little experienced users. Pros would use different software anyway/would write their own code.

Have you checked out the "Edit Default Styles" window. Presumably <ul> and <ol> styles could be added to this.

I would have thought that anybody creating a website would want to learn, at least, the terminology the basics of HTML and CSS - it's not so hard. How many times do we see people confusing basic items like heading, header and title?

People do build websites without any knowledge of code but they mostly have very poor performance in the browser - even if they look OK.

EasyWeb helps beginners to create more sophisticated sites than most other drag and drop editors. To take advantage of this the user needs to take the time to learn a little about the document they are trying to create.

We will add these features, but remember we are barely at version 1 yet. You have the option to use HTML Snippets to implement features we haven't gotten to yet or you can stick with what we have provided.

To do lists in EasyWeb they can be manually typed in and formatted with a text object. In this case there isn't even a need to use an HTML Snippet.
