Mobile vs Main pages

I am probably a good few weeks away from making mobile pages of my full pages but wondered if when I get round to it, there is the option for the user to 'opt out' of viewing the mobile pages? I have browsed some websites on my iPhone and been really disappointed with the mobile version of some sites (I guess not everyone puts the same effort into their mobile versions as they do their full sites) I am sure I have seen some sites have a link to 'View Full Site' where you can see and use the normal site pages still from your mobile device. Will this be possible with EasyWeb? Can I make a link on say the HomeMobile page and include a link at the top/bottom to 'View Full Site' and link it to the normal home page? or will it keep going round in circles always switching to the mobile version? Just in case.... |

You can link back to your full site. To do that from your mobile page set a hyperlink to An External Page. Then in the hyperlink field set; http://www.domain.com/filename.html?fullsite=true Notice how it is a little different then linking to one of your pages regularly. You'll have to know your domain name before hand. We'll make this easier in the future but for now this is how you would do it. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |

I too have wondered about the point of making separate mobile pages. I mean, with so many different browser sizes, what do you target? iphone, ipad, android, laptop, desktop... I thought smart phones were smart partly because you can surf the full web on it, double-tap to zoom in, turn sideways for landscape mode, etc. Why cater to a mobile resolution when the phone just automatically resizes and gives the user so much flexibility in viewing? I usually turn to landscape mode anyway which is more like a laptop aspect ratio. You need to read the stats on the behavior of mobile device users. The majority will do a runner if your site doesn't look and act like a web app and they will never come back. Remember that mobile sites are the now and the future and your traditional designs are of secondary importance. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! [quote="Roddy":3cqxkp3x] Remember that mobile sites are the now and the future and your traditional designs are of secondary importance.[/quote:3cqxkp3x] I am completely new to this. My question is: - Do I have do change each site to a mobile version? - Do I have to set up a new project for this? - Is there any tutorial how to setup mobile sites? daniela |

Quote: . I thought smart phones were smart partly because you can surf the full web on it, double-tap to zoom in, turn sideways for landscape mode, etc They do and you can leave your site as is. But from a usability stand point it is much better to serve mobile users a version of your site with less details and one that makes clicking links easier. The desktop mouse provides much more precision than a finger when clicking links or objects on a site. It's also a bad experience for users who have to zoom in and out to read parts of your website. A good mobile site can help improve usability. Quote: - Do I have do change each site to a mobile version? You don't have to. It's usually good to make a single page mobile site that has only essential information on it. Quote: - Do I have to set up a new project for this? No you make it in your existing website project. Quote: Remember that mobile sites are the now and the future and your traditional designs are of secondary importance. That may be true some day but for now I think it is a very subjective opinion... As much as I love mobile devices I consider it an alternative to when the computer is not available. I definitely prefer to see websites on a computer screen. ------------------------------- Yelena MacBook Pro OS X 10.10.3 IMac 21" OS X 10.10.3 |

Apparently mobile devices account for almost 40% of internet usage and by the end of this year it is predicted that there will be more mobile devices than people on Planet Earth. Most website owners are still hiding their heads in the sand but sales stats seem to support the massive growth in mobile use. All the small to medium business owners that I have dealt with report an almost immediate rise in sales when the mobile site came online. Computer sales are falling and there's a growing number of people who don't own one. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Yes, but not everybody is selling something and there are plenty of others who do use computers. As long as "in between" generation is here they - us - will be using computers as well... Not to deny the use of mobile devices or necessity of mobile sites - I think it is necessary and great. But people do use computers and many prefer bigger screens...

I know. What's the deal with people watching movies on a four inch screen anyway? We've got 15" laptops for that, 60 inch TVs, and 4K is knocking on the door!

Go out on the street and watch the people around you. You will be surprised at what they do with 4 inch screens. Most people aren't buying laptop and desktops anymore.
