HTML Coded pages not working correctly...

User: wellnl 12 years ago
Hi!

Thanks for having me as a beta tester. EasyWeb is great and easy to use so good work!

On to some issues in Beta 19

I have taken HTML code from iweb and placed them in my pages (Headers, footers and also in the main body of the page). Once I publish the pages they appear quite scrambled! The code refers to image sprite files for menu labels and icons. You can see how it looks at
mobile.wellnl.com (This is only a quick test page so far)

Also aligning coded materials such as icons also results in problems with screen redraw and aligning one HTML coded box with another (ie they dont line!)

Thanks for listening and please let me know if you need more information...

Actually, I just tested it on a mobile phone and it works fine... it's only if I look at the pages on a mac that this problem occurs...

Also Helvetica Light seems to be too heavy when the text font style is applied. If I cut and paste in from iWeb it looks fine. i am using a macbook pro 13" for development work.

Thanks, product is looking good so far. Fast and easy too!

I'm not surprised that your page hasn't turned right!

You seem to be copying whole HTML docs and pasting them into EasyWeb. You have specified the beginning of an HTML doc (<html>) at least 11 times.

Adding HTML to EasyWeb is not the same as doing it in iWeb. When use an HTML Snippet in iWeb it creates a new HTML doc for the snippet content. EasyWeb inserts the HTML into the actual page.

You need to take a look at how an HTML doc is laid out and have an understanding of which code goes where. In general, CSS styles go into the Head Code box in EasyWeb, the HTML into an HTML Snippet and any supporting javascript into the Footer Code box.

Thanks Roddy! Appreciate the feedback, I was beginning to think that i would need to edit the code and not just cut and paste it from iWeb. It will be good for my coding skills (or lack of!)

I also notice that the naming convention has changed with the page names e.g. "Work_at_Home" seems to become "work-at-home"...

Thanks again! :)

A few people have been trying to copy code from iWeb Snippets without realizing what a bad idea it is!

EasyWeb corrects page file names to be lower case and with hyphens instead of spaces - the way they should have been written in the first place. iWeb couldn't do this because it didn't offer an alternative way to name the page in the default navigation like EW does.
