Viewing Responsive rows and containers

Responsive rows and containers

I have always assumed that the new containers HAD to be placed inside of a responsive row. All of the demo videos I've watched show them being placed inside a responsive row.

I just realized they can be placed anywhere on a page. I'm going to have to experiment with this more, as I may need to re-think how I use them. If I am wrong and they shouldn't be used in this manner, please let me know.

My question is, often when I add a container to the page using the toolbar, it get's dropped into the responsive row that is currently selected. If I try to drag it out of a responsive row, it just "floats" on top of other widgets or responsive rows. I can't seem to get it to "insert" between other widgets or containers on the page. Is there a way to do this?

Perhaps we need an actual "container" widget that we can drag and drop into the page so that it gets inserted into the place we need it?

I feel like we need some more demos on how these new containers function, and how to use them (besides inside a responsive row). I'm hoping with the release of 4.5 we will get some new video demos that showcase more ways to use the containers.

Hi Jesse,

Thank you for your message.

Containers do not have to be placed inside Responsive Rows, they can be used anywhere on the page. However, how they behave depends on whether they are set to be Full Width or not.

When a Container is not set to Full Width, EverWeb treats it like a free-positioned object. In that case, it will float on top of other widgets and will not insert into the normal page flow, which may be what you are seeing.

If you want a Container to behave like a layout section and insert between other widgets or containers on the page, select the Container, go to the Inspector, open Metrics, and enable Full Width. Once it is full width, it will snap into the page flow and can be positioned between other full-width elements, just like Responsive Rows do by default.

Hopefully that helps clarify the behavior you are seeing.

Best regards,
M.S.

Ah...yes! Once I changed the setting it did snap right into place. That's great to know.

I appreciate the information, it's very helpful.

Hi Jesse

If a container goes in to a Responsive Row widget by mistake, I usually right (secondary) click on the container and use the 'Remove from Responsive Row' option. I find it easier than dragging it out of the Responsive Row tbh. I think it also does this as a full width object too...
