Viewing Forced Hosting

Forced Hosting

User: Guest 10 years ago
Why are we NOT given the option to have our site hosted elsewhere? I'm completely satisfied with who I've been hosting with in the past. Are there going to be any future updates that will allow me to host where I want to host.

Confused :?:

Rage had mentioned that they may open 3rd party hosting at a later date (that date has yet to be determined)

So, it is a wait and see at this time

Thanks for responding lilnitsch! I figured out that I could just save to a root folder, edit any additional coding in Dreamweaver or Coda, and upload with Transmit. Just was hoping for a much easier upload experience directly from within Easy Web, that's all.

There is NO forced hosting with EasyWeb.

You are welcome to use ANY web host with EasyWeb. I repeat, you do not need to switch your web host in order to use EasyWeb.

Right now, only users who have a RAGE Web Hosting account can use the one-click publishing feature.

If you do not publish to RAGE, but rather any other web host, you can still publish by publishing the site to a folder, and then using an FTP client to upload your site (Transmit, as you mentioned, is an option).

We may include a publish to FTP option in a future release of EasyWeb.

One of the downsides to hosting elsewhere is that items like the contact form won't work due to the fact that the assets are on the EasyWeb server. Setting up a contact form and implementing the server side script, email address etc is fairly time consuming and seems to be more than average drag and drop software user is prepared to learn and do.

It's possible that future features will require these type of assets just in the same way that several iWeb features depended on publishing to MobileMe.

I think that tied hosting will suit the majority of users in much the same way that MobileMe was by far the most popular publishing option for iWeb users.

Thanks a million for your input Roddy! I can always use a third party contact form such as Wufoo that allows you to place the coding wherever you'd like.
