Viewing SEO checkbox

SEO checkbox

This sort of goes with my question from the other day about a Google error. Apparently, the error that Google found was that I had duplicate pages i.e. all my mobile pages, of course, are duplicates.

The site uses separate pages for desktop and mobile, so not responsive. I did that because my daughter and husband (it's their business website) didn't really like the way the responsive mobile looked and so we did it the old way - desktop pages and mobile pages.

So I'm looking for a clear answer to this. I have 2 checkboxes on the mobile pages:

"Include page in search engines"
"Include in XML Sitemap"

So should I just check the box in front of "Include page in search engines??"

I'm guessing here... if I include the mobile pages in the site map Google thinks I have duplicate pages but if I don't check either box how will Google know that it has a mobile site? So that's why I'm guessing that I DO check the "Include page in search engines" Because they ding you in search position for duplicate pages but they also ding you if you don't have mobile!

Am I correct? What is the best way to do this?

Thanks,

Susan

Hi Susan,

Thanks for your question. You need to "Include page in search engines" and "Include in XML Sitemap" only your Desktop pages. The mobile ones are redirects from your Desktop pages, when trying to open the Desktop site on a mobile device. It makes more sense to only have the Desktop site indexed by Google, and it will consequently solve the issue of "Duplicate" pages.

Hope this helps.
