Viewing Publishing Anomalies

Publishing Anomalies

User: Christopher 12 years ago
I'm making a fresh post for this because for some reason, the problem is not going away. I used to publish entire site, or publish changes, both to Folder, and come across occasional anomalies. Then go back into EW, make a few changes, republish, and voila - all better. Now it seems like things are screwed up every time. I'm also using the latest unreleased beta Build 1083.

Just take a look at the screenshots below.

One more example. You'll notice it's not just text colours that are changing, but when published they're thicker. Everything is Open Sans Regular or Open Sans Condensed, except for the header logo which is a png.

Text looks different on different browsers. That's probably because each browser seem to render fonts differently. Same goes for colours. Sad but true. I wish my webpage would look like it does in EasyWeb when I test it on Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Opera, but it doesn't. Even the text spacing is slightly different on each browser, which already caused a lot of confusion. So I keep testing my websites on at least these four browser. I'm not going to install IE on my Mac though ;)

These differences are probably due to bugs in the publish changes feature. We need to see the EasyWeb project and possibly do a screenshare.

Differences between web browsers will be very minor if any. Not like these differences.

Also, in the future, please always post your website URL if it is published.

Hey Paul,

I made a few changes, republished, and everything worked. This before the newest beta. So I've been onto other things (encoding video), and away from my desk, which is why I haven't written back. I've since downloaded the latest beta. If I run into the same problem again after publishing, I'll let you know. Thanks,

Chris

Website pages are served up to the rest of the world from a server via a browser - not from a web design app or a local folder. The only way that you can tell how a page is going to appear to the visitor is to publish to a server - local or remote - and view it in as many browsers as possible.

If you don't publish to a server and give the URL nobody but yourself can look at the source code.

Here's some more info about website testing...

Here we go again. It's been working fine. But now, after trying to add a few things to my home page, everything is screwing up. Pages that I haven't even touched are totally screwed up. Just like in the pics above. I'd rather not send in my project folder or post my link publicly. Paul, if you're reading this today, and I haven't posted to say 'hey, everything's working again', you can email or pm me and we can sort something out.

Hi Chris,

Ill need you to email me your easyweb project and screen shots of pages that aren't working along with your URL. Without those I won't be able to provide any help.

(Edit: I've tried to fix this post. But just like my site, the gremlins are winning!)

This is what my site currently looks like on my desktop, both using Safari:

As I've been saying, publishing with Beta 18 is very unpredictable. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I mentioned on another thread, that this time around, I trashed my publish to folder contents, and republished entire site. Then when I uploaded, everything seemed fine. Until I checked on my iphone...

I'll clear my cache, do a full Safari reset and see what happens. I don't know if I should send you this project file, Paul. Maybe I should wait till it screws up more so you'll have something you can definitely replicate.

I'm getting the same issue. When I publish to the internet all the font styles are different to the ones I used? The problem doesn't to go away though even after republishing? Any ideas? <!-- s:?: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_question.gif" alt=":?:" title="Question" /><!-- s:?: -->

Chris, you are saying it works fine on your desktop but not on your iPhone right now?
