Setting up a website for an artist with paintings on it would be beneficial to use webP files to reduce file size and increase loading time on slow internet connections without loosing clarity. Other websites seem to using them more. |

I posted in the forum about two years ago with a link to a demo page about WebP, how to convert to it and insert it using a free widget. Back then the big problem was that Apple hadn't implemented it - probably because it's a Google thing! Although it is now available to Safari users it has only recently been implemented as you can see from Caniuse. This means that you would have to insert a fallback JPEG for older versions of Safari. Perhaps that is why EverWeb hasn't implemented it yet? If you open some big name websites in an older version of Safari you will see an empty frame where the image should be. If your site has a lot of images it may be the time to consider using .avif image files. I made a widget for inserting multiple formats and THIS PAGE shows the resulting file sizes.
