Mobile page for existing blog

User: Lance L. 2 years ago
Hi guys,

So I'm working on building the mobile / phone versions of my desktop website pages. I've got them all done except the blog. And that one's got me stumped. I have everything replicated except the actual posts. And I can't find a way to get that content replicated in the mobile blog page.

I fear this is another missing feature in the blog widget, like the inability to batch delete blog posts? But hoping someone can tell me otherwise :) .

Hi Lance,

First of all, thanks for your suggestion of the batch deleting blog posts. This feature is something we intend to implement in one of the future updates.

As for the mobile version of the blog, we would recommend switching the existing one into responsive layout. Make the pages full width, and set the margins on both sides to 25-30 px.

Please let us know if you need further assistance with this.

Hi guys,

I'm away from home with my laptop and remote access. But that does limit how much I can do on my project. But not to worry. So anyway - thanks for that recommendation. I'm now on the steep learning curve for the responsive thing.

My immediate question - I'd like to be able to replicate the style, (apparent) size and appearance of a header image a la the other pages. I've tried all manner of stuff but can't figure it out. e.g. I've created three different sizes of the image; but then I can't figure out how to put them into a responsive row (or rows??) in such a way that I get the right result across devices. Then I've tried putting a flexbox in the responsive row with a view to putting the image/s in that. But then I can't figure out how to get the image/s into the flexbox. Etc ..

Please rescue me. Thanks.

Hi Lance... there are a lot of different ways to answer this question... If you have a response page and are using a responsive row widget, you can select the responsive row widget then go to the Shape Options tab and select the Fill dropdown. Use the Image option to add aa background image to the RR widget. There are also options to scale the image there too. If the page is respsonive, then the image will scale according to the device it's displayed upon.

If you're using a FlexBox widget, try using a percentage in the default, min and max width fields e.g. 35%.

At the end you may find that there are some differences across devices and this also depends on the height and width of the image your using and the available width on the device.

Hope that helps. If you need more, it may be an idea to send your project to support outlining the issue as having an overview of the project file may make it simpler for them to get you a solution that works for you!

Hi again,

Thanks for the help so far. I now have my site (inc blog) 98% ready to go public (I think). There are still tweaks I can make, but most of those I think I can do along the way after it's up. There's just one glaring issue I've run out of ideas for. Hoping it's not a bug.

It's the blog post widget. (No problem with the archive widget). It has a mind of its own, or so it seems. I repeatedly set its metrics to what you see in the first screencap. Within seconds (usually; sometimes minutes) it resets itself to what you see in the second screencap. If I set it as I want, save the project and then 'publish site changes', it will nearly always reset itself before my eyes during the publish operation.

The result every time is a blog post that 'spills over' at least the right boundary of the page (sorry if that's the wrong language) and sometimes the left as well. As such it displays beautifully on larger computer screens, but is just unusable on anything else.

Thought I'd ask here first. Your advice may well be again to send a project file to support. Happy to do that if appropriate. Thanks.

Hi Lance

yes it's strange that the settings 'snap back'... they shouldn't do so. So, yes, I think it's best to send the project to support to look at. It may be something they can answer immediately or may be something they will need to check out more.

Best

Simon
