Apply alt text to blog post image

User: Lance L. 2 years ago
How does one add alt text to the post image in a blog post? As far as I can see - it can be done for images inserted within the text body, but not form the post image ... ? Or have I missed something?

Hi Lance,

It is possible to add alternative text directly on the blog post page, once you add an image there. Select the image and click on "I" below the image and add alternative text.

Hmm? Well that's not what I'm seeing in my Blog > posts interface. See attachment below for an example ...

1. Image shows parts of edit and preview panels for the sample post.

2. This is a post with a "post cover image" (the one at the top that also appears next to the post in the archive page view) and several other images inserted in the middle of the text at various points.

3. The screen cap shows the "post cover image" and the first of the other images.

4. Screencap is annotated with two red arrows. The left arrow indicates the inserted image, showing that it appears in both edit and preview panels. I can click on it in the edit panel, and that will give me the frame with buttons, including the one for the alt text (as you describe). So I've been able to use that to apply alt text for that image as well as all the others below it.

5. Right arrow indicates the "post cover image" displayed right-aligned in the preview. Question mark at the other end of the arrow represents the absence of the "post cover image" from the edit panel. Because it's missing from there, I'm not able to edit it (except in the inspector > widget > post cover image options; but that doesn't include a box for alt ext).

HI Lance,

Sorry for the misunderstanding. You are correct, the cover photo can't have ALT text in EverWeb 3.5.1.

Let me see if we can get this added for 3.6 since it is a small oversight.

Brilliant, thanks Paul! (Is there a prize for generating the most feature requests in a month? 🤣 )

Hi Paul (or whoever),

I think this one might need further attention. The 3.6b does have this added in, which is great. But unless I'm mistaken, it needs a further tweak. What I think we now have is a universal setting that affects all blog posts, not just the current post. It seems that if I edit the either the maximum dimensions or the alt text for my cover photo, both of those are applied to every post cover photo.

Hi Lance,

This appears to be a big in the 3.6 betas. We will fix this.
