Viewing gallery problems

gallery problems

User: Susan S. 2 years ago
I have 2 galleries right now I'm testing on this test website. This first one is just the regular gallery. We like it but think that when you go into the slideshow mode the semi-transparent dark gray background is distracting because we can see the other images behind it.

So click here: http://test.starfishcreativegroup.com/paintings.html

And click any of the images and it will start the slideshow and you'll see it's semi-transparent. First question: is there any way to make that solid black?

So then I tried the responsive gallery and it does have a solid black background but it seems no matter what I do (reducing image size) that on that slideshow, images that are taller than they are wide, all have a gray band at the top. So if you scroll thru the slideshow you'll see that two have the gray band and one does not. Is there any way to get rid of that gray band? You can see it here:

I've tried the for purchase Everweb Widget site and bought those image galleries but they don't work either as they seem to have a limit of only 2 lines on the captions.

Any help at all would be great.

Hi Susan,

I apologize for the delay.

When viewing each slide, there will always be the semi-transparent background, there's no way to change it.
Also, the gray band has to be there, as the top contains the slideshow controls.

It's a feature in the Image gallery slide show options, so the only other thing I can suggest is to look at third party widget options.

Let me know if any questions arise.

I did that already with two 3rd party widgets but I can't get support from them and can't figure out the widgets there either. Thanks anyway.

I have sent you one of the galleries from the EverWeb ThemeKit range. These new galleries go above and beyond anything that has been available to date!

Please fix this: the transparent background and the gray bars look unprofessional. We should be able to chose a background color/fill and the gray bars look horrible.

Hi Dwight,

Thanks for the feedback! We can definitely add this option to EverWeb.

That would be very helpful. Sorry for the rant. Everweb is a great program but it would be nice if it was more artist/photography-friendly.

Has there been any progress on this? I have been annoyed with this behavior for years and would be willing to try a beta version or any ugly hack to make it stop.

I've already done that with two third-party widgets, but I can't get support from them or figure out how to use the widgets there. Thank you anyhow. https://billing.ragesw.com/color by number

I work with many artists, and they all like the thumbnail gallery, that when you click on the thumb, you get a larger version with information about the piece of art... price, size, medium, a link to purchase, and so forth. I can't do that with the Everweb gallery; I can't seem to put links in it. Also, a lot of my clients (artists) have told me that that scrolling sort of gallery is so dated. That may have to do with the background being that transparent black, which does not go with the majority of websites I make because most of them are white and minimalistic. And again, I need more space than Everweb galleries currently offer for information and purchase links.

So I end up using thumbnails that I have to link to a page for each individual piece. A lot of work, but they all feel it looks better.

This sounds along the lines of what I am trying to do. I have an index of over 400 audiobooks using image gallery. I have started to write comments on each audiobook in a blog. Trying to link the thumbnail in image gallery to the corresponding blog entry. After publish when I click on a thumbnail it brings up larger version of the the image.
Do I need to redo this and make it thumbnails not using image gallery?
(I will continue to look through discussions to see if an answer is posted elsewhere.)
