Can Two Add-on Domains Point to the Same Website?

User: David S. 2 years ago
The title kind of says it all. I have three add-on domains. The Everweb tutorial explains how to park a domain and change the name servers. The thing is, my original (main) domain shares the same name servers as my add-on domains. The question, of course, is how does the parked add-on domain know to point specifically to one of the other add-on domains and not to the original (main) domain?

Thanks.

Hi David,

The nameservers are dedicated to your account. So if you add an addon domain in the client area and make it point to the nameservers stated in your EverWeb + Hosting Plan, they will be pointing to our servers and hosted with us. You should then publish your website to one of the addon domains through EverWeb for your actual website to go online.

The "main" domain is also known as Primary domain, and it's used for your convenience. You may avoid using it at all.
Technically, addon domains' nameservers point not to your primary domain, but rather your account with us, which shares the primary domain name.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the really quick reply. Meanwhile, I just now made a very minor change to my Primary website and selected "Publish Site Changes" and now I'm seeing a corrupted version of the website that is associated with one of the add-on domains. I did not change name servers on either the Primary domain or the add-on domain. Both domains and websites had been working perfectly until just now, when I published the (very small) site change. On the Site Publishing Settings page I selected the correct Account and correct Domain. I repeated the process, this time re-publishing the entire site and obtained the same result.

Thanks so much. After I wrote the above I signed-out, signed back no, uploaded the entire site, (because it was all I could think of) and everything is now working as it should. Really appreciate your quick response.
