How to Create a PayPal Button Interaction

I hope this is information helps other people with the design of their e-Commerce directly linked to PayPal without the need for 3rd Party e-Commerce Platforms.
When I was designing my website, the PayPal widget was useful. However, the one thing I worried about was having to customers purchase when only one item was available.

Discussions with PayPal were particularly poor and at one point they didn’t seem to know their own facilities. The Everweb PayPal widget is fine and simple providing there is no inventory issues. Even if you are selling a small quantity of items, you could run the risk of having to make a refund because you have run out of stock or it is not available. Not good for customer experience or business.

The facility I outline may not be available to an ordinary PayPal accounts so I must point out that I have a Business Account with PayPal.
What I found was, the ability to create a button on PayPal, after which, PayPal create a HTML code and more importantly they provide a LINK under the section ‘E-mail’.
This LINK is essential in making a ‘Button’ (you may create in Everweb) to PayPal. Personally I made a PNG PayPal button with a border so I know its not the Everweb widget – quick when checking.

Using the PayPal button from the PayPal Account, I was able to create an inventory of one item, then have a restriction to prevent a customer purchasing when the stock was NIL.
Furthermore, it also included redirect buttons to a ‘Thank you’ page or a ‘Cancellation’ page. After this button has been created it allows you to create a new button using the same format as a template. All that is needed is to go back and adjust the ‘Item’, ‘Description’ and ‘Quantity’ as necessary. Clicking on ‘Generate’ button, creates a unique code to use as a LINK under the section ‘E-mail’.
The second part of this, is to design your website with the item you are selling, Which can obviously include a picture and or a slide-show.
At the bottom of the advert I included a PayPal logo, price box and a PayPal button – which said “Buy Now” . Using the inspector/link allowed me to copy the PayPal E-mail LINK and paste it into the Everweb link box.
Testing this out, takes the customer straight through to PayPal seamlessly.
For those people that are selling low quantities, PayPal have a section stating that when the inventory drops down to a certain point – this can be quantified – PayPal will e-mail you to make you aware!
It is a bit of a long winded way of setting up e-commerce without having to use a third-party. I personally found that I could create the buttons with their individual descriptions, price and quantity and generate the E-mail LINK all copied to a notepad, knowing that I could work on the web-page, creating the products, picture and price and then just link the button to PayPal using the unique e-mail link. Job Done.

I also found this LINK as Video which I didn't see before writing this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysNeZTvpL9I

Thank you for sharing Peter!

Were you able to use the inventory management with the EverWeb PayPal button or did you have to use the PayPal interface?

I had to use the PayPal interface from PayPal and set-up in PayPal. Unfortunately the widget provided by Everweb - bearing in mind I have the latest version - does not have the ability to have inventory control. I believe this is a fundamental of a selling widget.
There are many cases where a 'one off' item needs to be sold and without inventory control it allows 2 buyers to purchase and thus cause problems both to customers - one will be disappointed, and the seller will incur the wrath of PayPal by making a charge for a refund. It's a pity that this is not included.
Furthermore, I found that the Everweb tutorial Website has not been updated as the Video I eventually found by accident 3 days after trying to figure the problem out, does not appear in the list of help. After writing to support about this, they agreed and also pointed out that the video is not up-to-date.
The whole reason for writing the item here is to help others overcome the issue of selling just one item on PayPal. I didn't point out that you need a Business account for the PayPal button to be made available - thankfully I already had that.
