How do I import custom photo titles from Photos.app?

User: Doug M. 3 years ago
Hello! I'm brand new here. Just got an M1 MacBook Pro and I'm attempting to retire my old MBP with iWeb. I have a very large website of my photos of travel, dinners out, concerts, shows my friends are in and recently me at home watching TV a lot. A real lot. I couldn't find a template that seemed to re-create the iWeb "Black" layout. So I started building one of my own with a blank black background. I copied and pasted from one of my pages on the web into my new EverWeb project so I got the fonts and things look good. But when I imported my photos from the Media Browser into an Image Gallery Widget they appeared in the opposite order they're in my new Photos.app (I did not import any of the 71,000 pictures from my old iPhoto library that was started in 2018). I thought at first the titles/descriptions weren't available but it was just because the font was black. I poked around and by dragging the pictures directly from the Photos.app they appeared in the correct order. However, none of the titles/descriptions that I manually edited in the Photos.app were used. The original file names came across. The custom titles are visible in the Media Browser.

So, first question, how do I keep the new titles when I import pictures? And second, why is there a huge space between the bottom of the photo thumbnail and the text for the title? I can edit the space between the pictures but the text remains in place. Is there an adjustment in the Widget Settings I'm missing? Thanks!

-Doug

EDIT: Third question, why didn't my photo attachment appear in this post?

No one? Is it not possible? That's a deal breaker for me. I'm not going to re-name all the pictures in my project(s) in two different places.

Hi Doug!

I've tried this for you as well and I can see my self made caption in the media browser, but only the filename comes in to the Image Gallery widget and not the 'alias' title for the image. I think this would be a great additional option to the Image Gallery widget, so would suggest that you ask for this in the Feature Suggestion section of the widget. May be worth outlining that you have many photos with custom titles.

As for the image caption, the only way I think you can make the gap smaller is to set the Gallery Appearance-> Vertical Alignment to Bottom. Adjust the Caption Spacing slider to see what looks best.

When adding links or images to your forum post, try using the URL or Image options that should appear above the post you're writing. Hope that helps.

and please bear in mind that as this is a forum for the EverWeb community, you may not get replies immediately! I'd give it up to 24 hours :)

Best

Thank you! But why wouldn't I post this in the "Bug Reports" forum? When importing pictures with the Image Gallery Widget you and I both don't see what we were expecting to see (the custom/edited photo titles in the preview window) in the widget when it's done importing.

P.S. I've waited 24 hours before replying each time to both of my topics.

So, not only is the Image Gallery Widget not importing the original file names, now it's assigning some unknown titles. It's completely inconsistent.

Great. There's no "cancel" option if you choose to edit a post. And there's no "delete" option for a post here.

have you looked to see if there is a add-on that may work better https://www.ewgalleries.com

Thank you! I had no idea there were options like that. I couldn't find one that seemed to be as generic as the built-in Image Gallery Widget but specifically offered to use the custom caption/titles from the Photos.app.

I did experiment with exporting the JPEGs from the Photos.app with the custom titles and then dropping it into the widget. But the pictures appeared in no particular order (not modified date from the export, not alphabetical and not in the order they were sorted in the Finder or the Photos.app). The pictures ended up with the .jpeg in the name and that I would be willing to manually edit out. However, I'm unable to re-arrange the pictures back into the correct order.

EDIT: I downloaded the "Image Gallery with Captions" widget from www.ewgalleries.com but when I drag it into a page it drops a grey preview rectangle and then it disappears. I get that it's in beta but it doesn't work at all.

No more suggestions? There's not actually any real way to import custom titles from Apple's Photos.app into Everweb? How has everyone else been importing photos?
