Client Login

User: Ian D. 3 years ago
Hi

I realise this is more of a 'WordPress' kind of question, but I recently lost a website project due to there being no option for clients to log in and update text/news pages in Everweb. Although the majority of clients are happy with the fact that 'no logins = added security for the site', there are those who do like to have some control over the wording and content of some pages (they may want to update company info/change telephone numbers/re-word text) without asking me to do it. Is this feasible in Everweb and if so it something that could be added?

Hi Ian,

There may be some third party services you can use. I will do some research.

Your clients can also use EverWeb with a shared project file if you like.

I get around that "control request" by making it part of the service. They tell me what they want and I make sure it's done that day. Most don't want to actually make the change, they just want the change made. They don't think about it being a "complicated process than can cause errors and it's best I do it for them."
If they ask for few changes then don't charge. Just do.

Probably the easiest way to do this (and it only works for SMALL changes) would be with what is called a « flat file CMS »

Here is an example: https://www.flatcms.nl/

It is not an actual CMS with databases behind, it simply adds the « contenteditable » property and gives access to a pseudo admin page in the same way an actual CMS would.

I must say though: I have tried a couple in the past and although some claim to be automated etc. it usually does not work as intended. You definitely need to export your pages and add the relative code manually.

I had a look at flat files a while back and came to the conclusion that it would be most useful for those who want to update their blog on the go without needing EverWeb and is something that should be incorporated into the EverWeb blog if possible.
