Account upgrade for "Pro" users

Once again, we stumbled upon the problem of not being able to have folders containing certain scripts or stuff that some of might need (see [url=http://ragesw.net/easyweb-beta/viewtopic.php?f=6...t=642:2yzz2o37]this thread[/url:2yzz2o37] as an example).

So, how about some sort of EasyWeb account upgrade to gain ftp access? I sure would pay a few bucks more and I'm sure others that need it will too. People that have no idea how to use an ftp program etc. wouldn't be interested in paying more money for something they don't need or understand. Right now I'd love to gain ftp access to delete files and imaged / shapes that are still on the server, but not used in EasyWeb and not shown in the assets list at all. But that's a minor issue...

<puppy eyes> pretty please?

Paul has indicated elsewhere that there may be come sort of file management system introduced at some point but I don't think this is the answer.

I am used to uploading assets to the server and managing the files since that's the way we do it in the real world of web design.

On the other hand, from my experience of support, you would not believe the stupidity of some people when they get access to the server. I can therefore appreciate why the EW developers don't want the average rookie drag and dropper poking about there since this will consume huge amounts of time sorting out the mess.

Having thought about it, I think the best way to implement this would be to have the ability to add directories to Assets and then have the EW publishing system overwrite any redundant files on the server - i.e. those that have been deleted from the project in EW.

If this is possible, it will provide the features we need and stop inexperienced users from messing up the functions of the server.

The file management features will work much like any FTP client, if we do go in this direction. We would have to do things like not allow users to delete certain folders (such as the public_html folder) or delete files still in use. Otherwise it can be a support nightmare.

Something along these lines is the direction we would like to go. It's more complicated than you think to implement correctly.

I didn't even think about the complication! I just know that, if it is implemented, it will open the door to enabling a huge number of website projects to be tackled by relatively inexperienced users.

The ability to add head/footer code is a huge step forward but won't be the whole cake until directories can be added to assets.

I understand that this will be of minority interest until more users gain experience but I think it's something you are going to get a lot of questions about in the near future.

I agree, and it is high on our priority list to solve this issue.

I agree to what you both say. And knowing that you have it on your priority list, that's very good news after all :)
