Google and GoDaddy are telling me the problem with this website is the website

This is a complicated (at least to me) question and it may ultimately have nothing to do with Everweb, but both Google and GoDaddy are saying they are not the problem and the website is. I'm just hoping some expert can at least help me with where to look.

I have one hosting site on GoDaddy and a few different sites are on it (all of the sites are made with Everweb). The sites are mine except one is a client/friend. I've looked thru the files in my hosting area and apparently all the sites use 1 .htaccess folder and one .php folder. I think that's important because I've been told those files could be the problem. According to GoDaddy those files are fine and I tend to believe them because the other websites on the server work fine.

Today Google told me that to them, the problem is with:

"'user agent' aspects of your site - this is what tells the website to display differently on different platforms/browsers etc."

They told me to hire a website professional, which is why I'm posting here.

OK here is the problem. The website works fine when you click the link below:

http://www.yfarepair.com/

However, the site owner wants his site to work on Google. It does not. When you go to Google and get his listing and click the website button/link you get an Internal Server Error. I've included an image of the error. You can see it yourself, go to the google listing here: http://bit.ly/3b7uud8 and on the right side there is that box with the biz info in it and click the gray button that says website (I've included an image of it below). You'll get the error.

My website is on the same server and using the same .htaccess and whatever else and I'm listed on Google and my website button works. You can see mine here: http://bit.ly/2UnWRxU

I have spent at least 10 hours on the phone with Google and GoDaddy. They both have come to the conclusion that it's the website.

Could it be? Do Everweb sites have a "user agent?" And if not can anyone give me an idea of how to solve this problem?

Many thanks,

Susan

Hi Susan,

This is very strange. I can't say off the top of my head, or from the information you've provided what the issue could be.

The 500 internal server error you see is a server related issue and many times related to a broken .htaccess file

I suspect that removing the htaccess file you have created would fix this issue.

If you want to contact customer support and mention this post, I can look into it but I would need you FTP server information in order to test a few things.

I have no idea what the godaddy support reps meant by user agent in this context.

On third party servers EverWeb does not create any htaccess files. So if you have created one on your own, this could explain this issue.

Keep in mind that an htaccess file that works on one domain, won't necessarily work on others depending on what you have put in it.

Well thank much for your reply! I've been getting the go around from so many people, it's always someone else's fault! Just to correct the record it was Google that said the stuff about "user agent." And it was also Google that told me to check the .htaccess file. I'm going to first try renaming the .htaccess file and making a new one and see if that changes anything. I have no problem giving you the FTP info everything on that server is saved in Everweb, so no harm, no foul. I just noticed today that my hosting is due for renewal and I may move to Inmotion hosting, I can get a great deal with them and their support is way better (I have a client that uses them).

So let me try the .htaccess thing and see if I can fix that .htaccess file. Oh and BTW, I didn't create the .htaccess file it was in the hosting space after I purchased the space from GoDaddy. And supposedly they checked it and said it was fine, but who knows.

Thanks,

Susan

Hi Susan,

1. What did Google say exactly? Who did you speak to? I don't believe Google provides support for things like that so I wonder if you are reading an error message somewhere, or if you got some advice from a discussion forum somewhere?

2. Rename the .htaccess file, quit your browser and try to see if the problem happens again. Don't create a new .htaccess file at this point.

3. You can always provide a separate FTP login and remove it later. Or update your password after we have discovered the issue.

4. Did you know you can get web hosting with your EverWeb account and it will probably cost less than what you will pay anywhere else?

I spoke at length with GoDaddy and emailed with Google. I am also on Google forums too. However, the "product expert" on google forums just told me this 5 minutes ago:

"There is something in this site pulling data from your http://virtualassistantcapecod.com/ site that is causing this problem. I would focus on that and go from there."

So this may NOT be a Godaddy problem and it may be something to do with the website. I'm just not sure. I don't entirely know what that means but it's something and both sites are on my GoDaddy hosting with their own domains.

I have 8 sites on my GoDaddy shared hosting (all are low traffic) all with their own Domain and it's under $150. a year. Since 1997 I've never had any problems with Godaddy until now (I know tons of people hate them) but I just changed from auto-renew and I'll be looking at options including Everweb.

Thanks!

I am not sure what this means or where this person would see this.

I am happy to take a look if you provide your FTP information to customer support. I can't say what the issue is without looking at your website files.
