I viewed the video titled: Linking to An External Page with the Navigation Bar. How do I link an external .pdf file to my Navigation Bar?

Create a link to an "external file". Select the PDF on your hard drive and it'll upload it to your host and it'll be available to the visitor when clicking on that link.

I created the link to my external .pdf file, but because the file is not a "page", it does not show up in the Navigation Bar using the Navigation Bar widget. I have not been able to figure out a way to have it show up automatically. However, since posting my question on this forum, I have created a "work-around". I made the Navigation Bar widget box smaller and created a regular hyperlink to the external file matching the size, style and color of the fonts. It looks pretty good on most of the web browsers. I would still be interested to discover if there is a way to make the file show up automatically using the Navigation Bar widget. Thank you for your help!

Laurel -

There's no way to do what you want that I know of - besides your work-around. The PDF is not a page so it can't show as a menu item. Remember, it's just a link to an external file.
When I usually want to make a PDF available, it's because it provides additional information or signup list or whatever in relation to some information I'm presenting on a page. In that case I create a link on that page to download it. Usually I make a very small JPG of the document and place it on the page then overlay an empty text box. The box is enabled as a link to the external file.

I can't think of too many reasons to be able to download from a menu item. (Just guessing without seeing your site.) That file must be connected with some information that's already on a page. Link from there would be my suggestion.

I have always felt it's better to explain why they need the file, or what it's for or whatever so they know why they need it. That's a good reason for some sort of page where the link is.

MrCourtney,
Thank you for your reply. I had not thought of creating a page with a link as you described. My webpage is a family history webpage and the .pdf is a rather lengthy bio of my father's WWII experience. I did not want to retype it on a page. I will consider your suggestion as an alternative to my work-around. Thanks again!

If you have a page just for your grandfather, that would an appropriate place for it. Otherwise the main section that has information about him. Or next to his picture. Lots of places :-)
