Can EverWeb do this ...

User: Chuck H. 4 years ago
I'm looking at a bunch of web building apps to replace the ones I'm using that are going to stop working when I upgrade. EverWeb is high on my list, and I'm about to start watching videos and play with the download. Here are some questions I'm looking for answers.

- I have lots of pages that are all the same format except for the text. Does EverWeb support templates that let me set up an outline and then fill in the details for that page? And then can I update the template and have the changes cascade and change all of the pages based on that template?

- How easy is it to create headers and footers that stay in place at the top of the page (or bottom of the page) when I scroll in the browser?

- How easy is it to create vertical menus that have fly-out menus when you hover over a top-level menu item?

- I don't understand the comment that we have to treat a directory as a page. Does it have its own URL that is stored on the server?

Yes! You would use Master Pages for this: https://www.everwebapp.com/support/video-tutorials/master-pages.html

For this, you can use Fixed Positioned Elements: https://www.everwebapp.com/support/video-tutorials/sticky-header.html

And this tutorial: https://www.allaboutiweb.com/2016/05/create-more-dynamic-pages-with-everwebs-fixed-position-feature/

Do you mean drop down menus from the nav bar, like this: https://www.everwebapp.com/support/video-tutorials/adding-directories-to-your-site.html

Which comment is this? Can you tell me where you read this so I can add the proper context and make sure everything is understand properly?

Hello, Paul.
When I watched the video about directories, there was a comment to remember that directories are another page.

I see how Everweb makes menus that lay out horizontally and show choices in a Dropdown menu.
I have in mind a vertical list of menu options and the drop down menu appears to the side of each option. See what I’ve done, please, on clhwares.com.

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the sample navigation style you are looking for.

EverWeb doesn't include that by default but I found this third party widget which does what you want. The Flyout Navigation from EverWeb Widgets.

There is an option in EverWeb to treat a directory as an actual page in the navigation bar. This means that if you click the main link (the directory page link) in the navigation bar (rather than the sub pages in the drop down menu) it will take you to that directory page. Or you can make it so that clicking the main link in the navigation bar doesn't take you anywhere, only the submenus are actual pages.

I know this is a bit confusing, but it is a minor detail and just provides a slight behaviour difference in how navigation bars with drop down menus function but it makes your navigation bar work better on mobile browsers.

When you create a directory page, it is would be best to go to the Inspector -> Page Settings (first tab) and turn ON this option;

"Redirect to first child page"

That is what this comment was referring to. The official explanation of this option is;

"Makes the directory inactive so that the navigation bar works in all mobile devices."
