BAD TIMING for a BACK UP - EVERY TIME!

Hey Rage, would you PLEASE add a choice for us to SCHEDULE site back ups in your next upgrade? Everweb determines when to back up at the most horrible times, and it is truly frustrating. Thank You.

Hi Candy!

I am sorry for the frustration. In EverWeb, you may determine the frequency of backups in top menu bar > EverWeb > Preferences > Backup. EverWeb would pick when to back up based on the frequency you set up.
I have heard of the plans to improve EverWeb backing up feature for the following releases, but we can't promise anything yet. This feature will be improved.

Meanwhile, could you please describe how exactly the horror manifests? Does backing up prevent publishing, or does EverWeb become extremely slow? Any details are helpful. To continue the communication, could you please submit a support ticket? Log in to the Client area and click the blue button "Open New Ticket" on the Welcome page. Direct link: https://billing.ragesw.com/submitticket.php
I'll take it from there and will do my best to help you!

As a workaround, if the experience is truly frustrating, I would suggest disabling the automatic backup feature at all. In the "Welcome to EverWeb" window, by clicking the two small arrows to the right of the project file name, and by selecting "Make Backup" option, you may back up manually whenever needed.

Alex

Thank you for that info, Alex.... i don't know how i ever missed that!

To answer your question, it just seems like when i need to make a few changes and then head to bed or have to head out the door, Everweb decides that it does a back up. i can't shut my computer down until it is done (unless i cancel it, but don't really want to do that.)

While we are on the subject of backing up, is there a setting that i can change so that the backup overwrites the previous one, so that i don't have a whole chain of backups on my hard drive?

Actually i had to go in preferences first and deselect "automatic back up", quit out of ever web and relaunch it before that feature showed up in project file frame in the welcome window. just thought that you'd like to know that. i'm using version 2.9.0 build 2180.

Thank you again for all of your help, Alex!

Hi Candy,

EverWeb can be set to store a certain number of backups in the preferences and it will replace the older ones for you automatically.

Also, the backup shouldn't take more than a few seconds. Is your project file very large?

Not so, when I check the EWBACKUP folder I usually have 20 or more backups, even though I have the number of backup settings in preferences set to 5. I just go in and check the folder every few weeks and delete most of the older backups.......

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with the automatic backup. It could be that the deletion of older backups is being prevented for some reason. Maybe due to not having the proper system access for the user account?

In any case, I will investigate this more and see if we can trouble shoot this from our end.

Furthermore, version 3.1 of EverWeb will have faster and smaller backup file sizes.
