Question on changing a PDF file

User: james 4 years ago
One frustration with my blog is that my site, about a gig and a half in size, very quickly takes up well over 3 gigs because every blog entry seems to add much more than it should. BUT my question is about PDF file changes adding to this problem.

?? If I click, in Assets, on the eyeball to view the PDF / then click on "Open in PDF Expert" top right / then make my changes and save –
1- Will it save the changes in EverWeb?
2- If so, will it upload those changes the next upload
3- If so, will it replace the previous version cleanly or will the previous version stay to take up space on the server.

Can you point out a specific thing that is being generated by the blog that shouldn't be? I don't believe there is anything extra that will be exported.

Yes, the change will be in EverWeb.

Only if the page with the link to this PDF has a change.

If you don't change the file name of the PDF in the assets list, it will overwrite the old one.

Thanks, that helps a lot. I'm having to use a lot more PDFs now and a couple will be undergoing additions.
My sites always total far less than 2 gigs. Yet I'm taking up almost 3.5 gigs of space. It increases steadily much faster than I add to it. I assumed that this had something to do with the blog since, even with one small image, a posting will upload upwards of 80mb.
Some changes coming today that will add to the size legitimately - then I'm contemplating, once again, having it all taken down and re-uploading in order to get the total down.

Hi James,

It is impossible to say what is taking up all the space, but your project file is not a reflection of what your final website file size will be. They are completely different.

When you use images with different sizes, effects, styles etc... EverWeb has to create multiple versions of the same files.

EverWeb creates the smallest possible website but if you're using lots of images, PDF or external files, the published site can be bigger than the project file.
