Switch my site to responsive pages

User: Heather M. 4 years ago
What is the easiest/best way to switch my current website (built with Centered Layout) to a fully responsive website, with the correct settings?
It seems that I would almost to need to rebuild from scratch, but if there is an easier way, I would love to know.
I've seen the tutorials, but they all seem to be geared towards a user creating a new responsive website from the bottom up.
Thanks!

Hi Heather,

Did you use Master Pages? If so, the process will be much easier since you only have to update one page for the majority of your design.

If you used Master Pages I would recommend duplicating it and then redesigning it as responsive and then changing each page to that Master Page. Or you can duplicate your entire project file, just incase you need to revert anything back.

To update the actual page to responsive it depends on what your website looks like.

What we did was change the page to Responsive from Centered Layout.

Then you need to look at your page as a number of sections stacked vertically. With traditional, fixed width pages, you can place objects anywhere on your page. With Responsive Pages you should organize your content in rows (or sections).

So starting from the top of your page, if you have a number of shapes, texts, images, that are aligned roughly horizontally, you should add a Responsive Row Widget to your page and then copy and paste each object into it. You will see the align themselves horizontally within the Responsive Row.

If you only have one object, usually an image gallery, image slider, blog post etc..., you can set it to full width from the Inspector (and set a maximum width and margin).

I hope this makes sense, but let me know if you need any clarifications.

This article will explain a bit more on the simplified Responsive Layouts and how to make them in EverWeb.

Thank you for this. I did use Master Pages, and have now been tinkering a bit with what you suggested, and the copy/paste technique.
All of it is helping.

If I need anything else, I'll let you know, but thank you for the quick response so far!
