Image Galleries

Displaying media files on a responsive web page requires special consideration and you can't just use default settings to insert images, slideshows and galleries if you expect the page to perform well in the browser on all device types.

These new Gallery widgets have been created with input from Chris Ballard - an EverWeb user who has made many requests for the features now available in these new widgets - who deserves most of the credit for his tenacity, persistence and help with testing!

Other uses have request features like the ability to launch a slide straight to fullscreen from a thumbnail grid, a thumbnail carousel which can display both a slideshow and a lightbox gallery, an autoplay hero slider suitable for displaying on computer and mobile devices and an image scroller that will accept files with different aspect ratios.

It should be noted that many of these widgets use the new CSS Grid Layout Module. This is kind of similar in some ways to the Flexbox layout used by the EverWeb developers but is more up to date and allows positioning of items in rows and columns instead of just rows.

The grid layout is the future of responsive web page layout and makes all other grid systems like Bootstrap redundant by creating complex layouts with very little code and no java script. The grid has been supported by all major browsers for almost two years now. Check out the Caniuse website to see if this will work for you.

The widgets are introduced and linked to Here. All constructive comments and suggestions are welcome prior to these being released.
