How to make a side bar?

User: Nick K. 5 years ago
I'm wondering if there is any easy/efficient way to add a side bar to every article page on my site without having to manually move and recenter every element on every page? Currently most of my articles have images that take up the whole screen (1000 px) and text boxes that are smaller and centered. If this is not a simple/quick process, is there anyone I could pay to do it? I'm aware of the responsive side bar on Everwebwidgets, but are there any other options that could easily be added to pre-existing articles?

There are a couple of sidebar widgets for fixed width websites in the Modules pack.

Sidebar Scroll & Stick

Scrolling Sidebar

Hi Roddy,
Thanks for your reply. I am aware of those, but what I'm trying to ask is how can I easily add a sidebar such as those to the 50+ pages on my Everweb site? Right now most of my images are nearly full screen. So am I going to have to manually go through every single page, readjust all the photo sizes, and manually move all of my elements to one side to make room for the sidebar? It seems like a huge, painstaking task, so I'm wondering if there are any quick tips or tricks. Thanks!

I can't think of any quick way.
Since you have a lot of work ahead, why not consider converting your site to responsive too?

Hi Roddy,
Would moving to responsive mean I would no longer have to make a separate copy of each page for mobile? Otherwise, it sounds like a lot of work to fix something that isn't a major problem for me at this point, so I'll really have to think about.

But I have another question for you that may be related:

I'm currently having a rep from an ad company set up ads on my site. He said that my site seems to have a combination of dynamic and static divs, but the static ones are preventing him from being able to put ad placement locations. He needs me to change all the divs to dynamic or relative value position. Any idea how that can be done on Everweb?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The responsive layout uses relative positioning so you should have no problem inserting the containers for the ads. Also, you will only need one version of the site.

Thanks Roddy. So if I converted my whole site to responsive, what would happen to my 50 or so current mobile page versions? Currently, Google recognizes my mobile pages as separate pages, and most of my top ranking pages are mobile ones, bringing me most of my site's traffic. If I changed to responsive and got rid of all the mobile pages, wouldn't I lose all my rankings and traffic from those mobile pages?

Do you know any developer that I could pay to handle all these changes for me (adding side bar, changing whole site to responsive?

If the mobile pages have the highest ranking, use their page names in the new site.

EverWeb has a service for creating websites.
