Viewing Image Slider and Gallery

Image Slider and Gallery

User: Chris B. 5 years ago
Hey,

I know I have posted before about this functionality however I haven't got to the bottom of it.
Can someone please look at building a custom image slider? one that sorts the images automatically (portrait / landscape) and arranges them without any messing about.. (I'm after one like the first link below)

Secondly I’m still on the hunt for a full width image gallery that will support a lot of images (hundreds on one page)… one that loads the images as the user scrolls, as the user scrolls the page down the images load in as they are shown..

I need to speed up my photography website and still add a lot more images to it... EW's own gallery is good, however it does not solve my problem.
The current gallery widgets slow the page down significantly as all images are loading at once.

The 2nd link below will give further info on the lazy load features I need and the 3rd link is an example of the type of gallery I need. Although Roddy's collage gallery isn't far off the mark, just lacks the lazy load functionality.

Any help would be very much appreciated... Also contacted Roddy to see if he could do something for me on this as I really need a quick fix if possible.

** Meant to also say that the image slider automatically makes all the images the same height, it expands the width of the landscape images so the height is matches the height of the portrait images. (This is important).......

There is a lazy loading carousel widget but it needs to be modified for the new responsive layout.

Here's a demo of a lazy loading grid with a lightbox slider that auto generates the thumbnails. The problem is that it won't work for those who publish to the EverWeb server as it requires a folder with the PHP app and the images to be upload.

I could make a widget for this but there is little or no demand for it and I doubt if it would even cover the development cost. It took about 4 hours just to search for a suitable script, figure it out and create the rough demo!

Here's a viable alternative for those who host to the EverWeb server and can upload their images to a Flickr account.

UPDATE: I can't create a widget for this because the Flickr photoset number has 17 digits and the EverWeb widget API only seems to be able to handle 16.

Here's the Responsive Justified Gallery created in EverWeb using a simple widget which links to the Assets folder on the server.

Thanks for your response Roddy,

Can the image carousel allow for a mix of both landscape and portrait images to be placed together without looking different? I.e the landscapes are resized to match the height of any portraits (similar to the link I posted above).

Also the gallery looks good which one would be best for me? I am self hosted so adding PHP scripts won’t be a problem.

How soon before these are ready to purchase?

The carousel images all need to have the same height. There is an old Carousel widget that can accept unequal images but it doesn't lazy load them.

I wasn't really intending to release the Grid Module widgets for a while. Most of the users I hear from seem to be struggling with the Responsive Row and its foibles! Not many have realised the advantages of using proper responsive widgets - never mind the new CSS Grid Layout Module!

The gallery widget probaly needs some more options like the ability to hide the image file names. If you are willing to do some testing, I'll send you what I have to see what other options would be required.

I have updated the widget adding controls for show/hide the thumbnail and slider captions and to add share, download and fullscreen links to the user toolbar.

The share button allows visitors to share to Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, Twitter, Google +, VK andvia email

Here's a DEMO for the carousel which has autoplay and auto scroll on computers and swipe on mobile. The slides are lazy loading so you can add as many as you want.
