Viewing Import Website from Lost Project

Import Website from Lost Project

User: Gary B. 6 years ago
I have a website that I created and published some time ago with EverWeb. I know the directory that contains the web files, but for some reason, this website no longer shows in my Projects. How to I "import" the files into EverWeb so I can work on the site again?

Hi Gary

First thing to do is to check to see if you have a backup of your project file and restore that if you have lost the project file. The published files are generated by EverWeb when you publish your website project. If the EverWeb project file is lost you may have to create a new project file and a copy of the published files to reconstruct the project. You may be able to drag and drop each html file page into a new project but you would still need to also add images back into the project and relink everything again...
First step, try to recover your project file from your back up.

Hi Gary,

Try looking for .everweb files (use Spotlight or Finder search). If you find any, drag and drop them onto the Recent Project section of the Projects Window.

Hello - I am stupid - I backed up the website folder with the html files, but forgot about the sneaky library folder and so, did not back up the project file within...:(

I have searched my hd, external hd, and dropbox for the .everweb project file, but non exist...

I have tried to drag the html files on top of pages of a newly created website to no avail...

Help! Any other ideas please?

Hi Lori,

If you have your old hard drive you should have the .everweb project there. It is in the USER Library folder, not the SYSTEM Library folder. The USERR Library folder is hidden by default on macOS.

However, if the backup is on an external hard disk you should be able to see it.

Open the external hard disk and make sure to go into your user folder first. Then you should see the Library folder and you can go to Library->Application Support->EverWeb and you should see all your projects there.
