ALL projects missing!

User: Steve 6 years ago
I've been using EW for years without a problem... This morning I opened it and found that all my projects are gone!
If they are still on my hard drive where would they be and how do I point EW to them?

Hi Steve,

Sorry for the problems you are experiencing.

Your project files can't really disappear out of nowhere, but lets try and figure out what could have happened and hopefully you have not lost any work.

1. Have you used an uninstaller to remove an older version of EverWeb? Many uninstall apps will remove all supporting files so it is not a good idea to use them unless you really want to remove all traces of any software

2. Are you logged into a different user account?

3. Did you recently update your operating system

4. Have you made any changes to your computer?

Your project files are located in your Library folder which is a hidden directory on your Mac. To access it;

1. Go to the 'Go' menu in the Finder
2. Select 'Go To Folder'
3. Enter the following exactly as shown in the Window that appears;

~/Library/Application Support/EverWeb

Do you see the EverWeb folder and anything inside there?

Hey Paul

I figured out the problem... Yes I use an uninstaller app. (App Cleaner) which I like a lot.. BUT I installed EW 2.5 beta then found that you can't publish with betas as you could when I was beta testing Easyweb etc... in the past. So I used AppCleaner to uninstall EW 2.5 which deleted everything! oops!

I do backups (not the EW pref one) but hadn't done one in a while... : (
BUT LUCKLY App Cleaner moves the deleted files to the trash which I had not emptied since the uninstall and there I found the last version of the EW folder SWEET! Moved it back to where EW could use it and I'm back in business!

The take away of the story is to BE CAREFUL when using app uninstaller apps. And keep your backups updated! I got lucky this time!!

Thanks to Paul and Kate for their support!

Hi Steve,

Yes, those tools are used to completely remove apps and all supporting documents and files associated with those apps from your computer. ONLY use them if you want to remove all traces of specific software from your computer.

You can publish as long as you have an active account that includes the latest update.

This sounds like something that's happening to me as well. The only thing is that I did empty the trash. So do you have any recommendations

HI Wallace,

Did you use an app like AppCleaner to delete EverWeb and all supporting documents?

Hello - I am stupid and have a similar problem - I evidently deleted my project file when I reinstalled the system on my mac mini... I had backed up the website folder with the html files, but forgot about the sneaky library folder and so, did not back up the project file within...:(

I have searched my hd, external hd, and dropbox for the .everweb project file, but non exist...

I have tried to drag the html files on top of pages of a newly created website to no avail...

Help! Any other ideas please?

Hi Lori,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience.

TimeMachine may contain your website project file if you have used it.

However, I would recommend opening a support ticket on this matter.

We'll try to help you!

In case if there is no way to restore your project file, we could offer your website recreation (if you have your website published) in EverWeb.

hello everweb support - thank you for responding and caring...i am in the middle of attempting to transition for the first time after 25 years from mac to windows which has contributed to this unfortunate moment in which I no longer have a hd working as time machine - so I'm screwed in that sense - there appears to be no .everweb file period.-- only html files... so perhaps I need to take you up on your kind offer of recreating my website, at a cost I imagine. You said I should open a support ticket...I will look for that, thank you
