Roddy, do you have in your widget collection

User: spyboynola 6 years ago
widgets that can come close to reproducing this type of pages. This is from adobe but it s slow to work with and has many limitations. I have spent some time searching your new site and see some items that might work. What I like about this presentation is it is more about a Magazine look. I know your busy but if you have time to send me it the right direction thanks. As you have many times.!!

Adobe likes to use a 14 pound hammer to insert a thumb tack and this is no exception with a "suitcase" full of scripts which make it unsuitable for mobile users!

I have created a DEMO which uses a tiny 4Kb script to create the parallax background image scrolling. All the rest is done using HTML5 and CSS. Note that the parallax is disabled on touch devices which is as it should be.

Each "page" is created with a background image, h1 and h2 headings and an HTML5 article. The article contains a heading, figure with image and figcaption and a paragraph - or whatever. You could have an unlimited number of "pages". The limiting factor would be the time the page takes to download if there are too many large background images. From 4 to 8 should be OK if the images are optimised.

I have staggered the offset of the article elements in alternate pages just to show it can be done. When viewed on iPad and iPhone, the parallax effect is removed and the panels become wider and centered.

Note that the demo is created using code and I haven't tried it in EverWeb yet.

Belatedly, I added a menu icon which can be a link back to the venue list and a basic footer with a smooth scroll to the top chevron to the Demo.

@ Stephen: I seem to recall that you used the Responsive Image Stack slider at one point.

For this DEMO, I have used the basicSticky Stack jQuery script but made the images full size in the background rather than responsive and added the overlay heading and article elements. Test it in the iOS Simulator on iPad as well as the browser.

ok both will work for me what next. Where do I buy! I tried to buy on website never could get to cart.

These are just demo pages made using code. I did try one as a widget earler today and it works OK.

Like all these parallax things, EverWeb really struggles with it. Filling out the data takes a while due to the beach ball spinning every time a control is changed or text entered.

I will finish it off tomorrow and send you a copy to try.

Yeah but once its done is done for a while. (Hopefully because this site is static ) Cannot wait I think my use will be way under the capability
of the widgets as far as any animation that we'll be fine. Thanks funny to say Happy Fourth to a Brit. Thanks

I have made a few improvements to the widget. You can see the demo HERE.

Do you want a copy?

I spent 20 years in California before returning to Scotland so I know all about the 4th.

Yes I do. I also have some questions that might have been resolved already. 1) ability to change width of article per page 2) way to stagger article containers 3)way to eliminate article image after placing it. 4)just a color background instead of image. Widget is a little slow but not bad.
here is a link to what I've done already https://www.nolamusicguides.com/full/dba.html
very much a work in progress but can see it is going to be better for long term that the adobe app.. thanks

I decided to start again and create the parallax scroll with CSS rather than jQuery to see it it would perform better in EverWeb.

[1] Its not easy to be able to both change the width and have them staggered. Remember we are dealing with a responsive item - not fixed width. It would be possible to change the maximum width on a per panel basis but it might look rather odd since the items staggered to the right will be more centered than right.

[2] I have added stagger.

[3] I figured out a control for the widget API to give the option of having articles with heading and text and no image.

{4} The last panel has a colored background simply by using a small image as described in the demo.

New demo HERE.

Like it! cool send when you can. BTW your widgets work faster that the Adobe product both in production and loading.

I've just finished the widget to create the ads. You should be able to see it in the Demo now.

It sticks to the bottom and then disappears before the footer comes into view. You can have as many images as you like - just add them and then enter the number of images. CSS calc takes care of the math.. The size depends on the number of images and the max width setting.

Each image has alt text, a title which shows on hover and a link to the website which can open in a new window if required.

I'll get both widgets finished off tomorrow and send then to you. It's now that time when everybody in Scotland eats their haggis and then practices their bagpipes before going to bed!

Roddy the scrolling panels work great and I figured out how to place images in the html panels and everything is wonderful but... I use the redirect code and I cannot get the background images in the tablet part of the site to show right . They are blurred out and it seems like the are giant with only a portion of the image showing blurred. I reduce the size of the images to 50% of the images used in the full version and no different. Really is a puzzle . here is a link to the full version that works fine, is it the use of the redirect widget? The images look good until you preview or publish. A real head scratcher can't figure out. Also I have tried to pay thru Pay Pal and get no action from the email links you sent! really like the way it it working on the full site. link to full site https://www.nolamusicguides.com/full/dba.html full site d.b.a

I'm not sure what is causing this but I have changed the widget yet again so I will test the new version in iOS and send you a copy when I know it works OK..
