Viewing Text BOXES

Text BOXES

How do we change the thickness, opacity of the actual text box. How do we make the box actually appear?

Gene -

A text box is just a transparent box that sets boundaries for your text and floats it on the page. So you can grab a handle on the box and make it skinny and vertical or square or whatever and the text will flow correctly in the box.
If you want the box to have an "edge" or be a different color, create a shape and place it under the box. Make sure you set the text box to be "in front" in the ARRANGE menu at the top. I also suggest you "GROUP" them together using the same menu.
One thing to keep in mind, when you first create a text box it always seems to appear in the weirdest places and sometimes it can be hard to find. Gotta look for it.

Hi Gene

Courtney is right that the text box is just a transparent box. You can add a border round the text box using the Shape Options tab. in the section 'Stroke' click on 'None' and select line to give your text box a border. In the Fill section change the fill type for Normal from 'None' to 'Color' and use the color swatch to change the color. This will give the box a background. Other effects in the Shape Options are also available.
Alternatively, you can add a shape to your page and then enter text directly in to it. Just drop the shape on to the page then double click inside it to get the cursor and start typing. Remember that you may need to use the Text Inspector to change the horizontal and vertical alignment of the text in the box, and use the Fonts button to select the font and size you want for your text.

Perhaps you can't see the outline of the text box because you don't have the layout turned on?

Use the Window drop down menu to show/hide the layout or do shift + command + L

If you want to style a text box efficiently, use a widget like THIS.

Hi, I would like to know if its possible to set the background opacity of a text box while keeping the texty100% opaque. If I change the background color opacity of a text box the text is also affected. Thanks!
