Viewing Contact Form Advanced of EW2.1 doesn't work

Contact Form Advanced of EW2.1 doesn't work

User: Cornelis V. 7 years ago
I never had any problems in the last two years when I applied any version of the Contact Form widget, including the Contact Form Advanced, till version EW 2.1.
I tried any combination of SMTP login and port numbers that I got from my Dutch internet provider in the Contact Form Advanced of EW2.1, but nothing worked. Switching between SSL, TLS or None, didn't work. Leaving all fields of the SMTP section empty, didn't work. Publishing the whole website, multiple times, didn't work.
Clicking the send button of the contact form from the published EW2.1 website only produced, in each case, a prompt on screen that the contact info was send, but after that everything went straight into a black hole. Nothing arrived at the designated e-mail address of the Contact Form Advanced. After a couple of hours I gave up.....

Went back to my Time Machine backup and put EW2.0.2, built 1661 in place instead. Now the Contact Form Advanced is working and behaving and delivering as expected.

Yes, the form doesn't work correctly! Dear developers please do not release a new version of EverWEB before testing!!! that is extremely important and annoying when we see the bugs such a new advanced contact form!!!

Hi,

Sorry for the problems you are experiencing.

We have fully tested the Advanced Contact Form.

The Contact Form Advanced had to be completely rewritten because even though the old one works for you, likely it will stop working soon, and it won't work with the majority of other users. Simply because of security changes all web hosts are making.

That being said, in order to figure out why it is not working for you, I need to know the URL with your contact form on it so that I can go through some tests.

These are the tests I will be doing, specifically number 8 which will provide the reason for why it is not working.

Contact Form Trouble Shooting

Note that number 8 will provide error messages if any of the settings you entered are incorrect.

Again, we do test everything and we are using the Contact Form Advanced on our own websites and it is working. We will of course figure out why it is not working for you and get it fixed ASAP.

Please remember that EverWeb is a product that can be used on millions of different web hosting platforms, each with different setups (the main reason we also provide EverWeb + Hosting because it is specifically configured so everything just works).

It is impossible to test on every possible configuration that a user might have with their web hosting provider.

Please provide a URL with a contact form advanced on it and I will do some tests from here.

Thanks Paul. I do understand the complexities you're facing...
I switched back to the basic Contact Form widget in EW2.1, because that one does work.
This basic one is not perfect but good enough for all of my clients.

Could this be an idea: move the 'classic' Contact Form Advanced widget from EW2.0.2 into EW2.1 as the new basic Contact Form?

The Contact Form Advanced without SMTP details entered should work exactly as it did in version 2.0.2. What you are suggesting cannot be done, but it should not be necessary anyways.

However, not using SMTP details will stop working any day now for you once your web host enables higher security standards which are becoming the norm.

But as mentioned before, if you upload your contact from from 2.1 with your SMTP details, I can do a test to see the error code and why it is not working. You can upload to a temporary location if you like somewhere.

The test I will perform is outlined in step 8 here.

Thanks to the feedback provided here we have identified an issue with some servers and not having SMTP details entered in the Advanced Contact Form.

This issue will be fixed for the next release.

However, we still highly recommend using your own SMTP details in the contact form at all times.

Thanks for your investigation and help Paul.

My temporary test page had both Contact Forms from EW2.1 in place for comparison reasons.
The top one was the Contact Form Advanced which didn't work. At the moment of testing all fields of the SMTP section were empty and the security was defaulted to None.
The bottom basic Contact Form worked proper.

Hi Paul,
i entered the correct SMTP Settings. But i didn't get a message. The old version worked fine. Without the own SMTP nothing happened. the form doesn't work correctly.

Will you be able to check out what is going on with my contact form.
User: Cornelis V. 7 years ago
You're not there yet Paul - but making progress...

In the newly received EW2.1.1b I started all over again to create a temporary test page with the Contact Form Advanced at the top and the basic Contact Form at the bottom for comparison reasons.
At the moment of testing all fields of the SMTP section were empty and the security was defaulted to None of the Contact Form Advanced.
The same e-mail address was entered in both widgets the send the form info to. The entire website was published after that.

On the published test webpage the name, e-mail, phone, city and message fields where filled out in the Contact Form Advanced.
After clicking the send button the info of the form didn't arrive at the designated e-mail address that was entered in the widget but instead the form info arrived at the other e-mail address dat was filled out in one of the fields of the published test webpage.

The bottom basic Contact Form worked proper.

I'm sorry but I don't quite understand what you are saying here. What field was filled out with an email address that the form was sent to?

Also, can you please provide a URL that I can check with the contact form published?

The contact form info is send to an email address that a visiter fills out when visiting the webpage. The form info is not send to the email address that was entered in the top field of the Contact Form Advanced widget.

This is the URL of the contact forms test page http://www.gobwestland.nl/contact_test.html

Hi Cornelis,

Could you send a screenshot of the widget's settings for the advanced contact form to support@ragesw.com so we can take a deeper look into this?

Thank you!

Damien
